About me - English
Hi I'm Thomas Kan.
I am an Australia born Chinese with 10 years in the education field in both volunteer and secular roles. I therefore am a native English speaker, who has learnt basic Mandarin later in life.
I have taught many Chinese students and also now currently in Ecuador have been teaching Spanish speaking business professionals Business English. I also have a strong computer background in programming and application deployment.
My experience includes instructing public speaking courses. I give regular public addresses on different topics and motivational talks. My area of expertise is in Business Analysis, with an Accounting and Finance background. I have strong report writing skills with an extensive English vocabulary.
I have a have TEFL/TESOL qualification from London. I have travelled internationally to over 16 countries and have a broad understanding of different cultures. I am a patient teacher who takes into consideration the needs of the student.
I have worked online on different platforms for the last 3 years and currently have over 2,000 online classes taught, but now I am wanting to branch out on my own.
I am flexible, but those interested in Business English will benefit the most from my teaching as I am from a Business Analyst background and know many industries.

Teaching Approach
I prefer a more conversational approach that maximizes student talking time. I am very dynamic and like giving background about the origins of words.
I build on what the student already knows and I identify patterns that need correction and work at the root causes of these. I also bring out helpful grammar patterns and like to help students by using phonetics to get there English sounding natural.
I favour using visual aids and keep my classes dynamic. My English is more British based than American, but I am adaptable to both. I enjoy teaching and imparting skills and knowledge that empower people to reach their goals. I commend often, give constructive feedback and am always friendly and encouraging in class.
