I am a native English speaker raised in Australia by first generation Greek migrant parents. Our first years there and the problems we encountered were deciding factors in my decision to become an English language teacher.

I have always wanted to help those who needed to learn English in order to become integrated and function better in their chosen place of residence. My quest to find my roots brought me to Greece in the 90's where I met my husband and have lived ever since.

I run my own English language school in Thessaloniki Greece and I like to unwind with a good book. I love working with people and my passion in life is teaching which I have now been doing for 28 years.

I have a Bachelor of Arts in languages and linguistics as well as a Diploma of Education both from the University of Melbourne, Australia.

I have taught in high schools, TAFE (Tertiary and Further Education) colleges and the Centre of Adult education in Melbourne. On moving to Greece I taught in a variety of private language schools and worked as an examiner in written and oral exams but in 1998 I set up the MLC Magounakis Language Centre which I continue to run to this day. I have taught all levels and all ages ranging from seven years old to mature adults.

I prepare students for all exams of general or academic English as well as for University entrance, undergraduate or post graduate. I have worked with professionals on public speaking and presentation skills and conducted many conversation classes. I also integrated two visually challenged students into my classes and prepared them together with their peers for Cambridge Certificate exams.

I am in charge of curriculum development, administration, teacher training and teaching methodology at the MLC.

In recent years I became interested in the use of technology in the English language classroom and have incorporated it into my lessons. I have used Skype to provide the opportunity to my students to chat with students in other countries and on occasion to conduct lessons with my visually challenged students.

I enjoy working with this technology and thus my interest here.

I like to think of my approach as flexible.

I cover all macro skill areas of Reading, Writing, Speaking and Listening and I may be a little old fashioned

in believing that grammar application as opposed to theory is an essential factor in achieving language excellence as it is the foundation on which everything else is based.

Having said that, I believe that approach differs in that it is adapted to each individual and their needs. Part of the fun of teaching is creating programmes that are tailor made to individuals and their requirements. I love a good challenge and firmly believe that something worth working or fighting for is better than something that comes with little or no effort.
