Detailed Profile in English

About me

About Me

Hello! I’m Tom, a qualified English Language teacher from the United Kingdom. I currently live in Thailand where I work teaching English to children & teenagers in a local school.

I also give private lessons. My students are varied; from young children to businessmen. I teach teenagers preparing for exams, adults studying for business trips, and children wanting to get a head start in school. I even tutor people who just want to brush up on their conversation skills by talking to a native English speaker.

I hold a bachelor’s degree and a TEFL certificate. I have taught at schools in Europe & Asia. And I also teach students from around the world over the internet, like you!

My main interests include travel, education, sports and science. I'm a huge Watford FC fan, although I don’t think many people outside the UK will have herd of them before. But I can assure you, they are the best football team in the world.

In addition to teaching English, I also have the added perspective of being a language student myself. I am currently learning Thai & Spanish!

I hope to speak to you soon!

Qualifications & Experience

I have qualifications in all sorts of things, but, these are the two that will matter to you:

- Bachelor of Science (Hons) Degree

- TEFL Certificate

As for experience, I have previously taught in a British secondary school. But more recently I've been training technical staff from around the world and teaching children at a school in Thailand.

Teaching Approach

As your on-line English tutor I will be creating lessons to fit your needs. My teaching approach is based around what you want and what your expectations are. My goal is to advance your English skills, to achieve this, we will work as a team. To begin with, we will discuss your goals. Are you studying for school or work? Do you like to travel? Do you have any English-speaking friends or family? Maybe studying English is a hobby? Once I understand your goals I will personalise lessons to help you quickly and easily hit your targets. Regardless of your goal, I will aim to make the lessons fun & enjoyable.

I like to use a communicative approach when teaching my students. I like to set clear and achievable goals for each lesson. Together we can choose topics, such as; shopping in London, booking a flight, chatting with clients, even certain YouTube videos or TED talks. We can then create a lesson around a real-life situation and discuss what language, phrases and structures you will need to use. Each lesson will have three main sections:

Present – We will introduce new material.

Practice – Practice the new material together.

Perform – Use our new language in a real conversation, making sure you’re comfortable.

At the end of each lesson I will give you positive feedback and also let you know where we can improve. This will help us to prepare for the following lessons. This way, your English fluency and accuracy will improve quickly.

To save you time and money, I might set you some homework. Normally this will involve watching a few select videos YouTube which we can then discuss and analyse in your next lesson.
