I moved to Israel in September 2013 and most recently taught at Ben Gurion University in Beersheva. Before that I taught for several years during my studies in Graz, Austria. I also have extensive experience in one-on-one private instruction.

From a young age, I have always had a passion for language, which motivated me to earn BA’s in Spanish and French and an MBA in tourism management, during which time I also took pedagogic classes and got my first professional teaching experience.
After my studies I began studying to teach German as a foreign language through the Goethe Institut and Ludwig Maximilians University of Munich. I now have experience in teaching German as a private tutor, in schools as well as at University level, as I have been German lecturer at Ben Gurion University in Israel.
As an instructor, I have experience teaching students of all levels. My goal is to train students in the four major skills laid out in the common frame of European languages—reading, writing, speaking and listening.
I am a big believer in creating a fun, authentic learning experience, through which students learn the language within the context of real-world situations to which they can relate, but I also like to put an emphasis on learning and understanding grammar because I think that it is essential in order to truly become proficient in a language.
I am also always striving to learn new teaching methods and improve old ones in order to make sure I am the best instructor I can be.
Having studied foreign languages myself -- and still learning another -- I think I have a true understanding for how hard it is to learn a new language from the beginning. I've found that this helps me relate well to my students.
I like to use a lot of different materials, particularly music, videos, texts and dialogues in my lessons. and I put an emphasis on learning grammar and about German-speaking cultures as building blocks.
I can also offer classes geared more toward people who already have taken some classes, reached a certain level and need to focus more on their conversational German and listening comprehension.
I have taken german lessons for over 3 years with different teachers and in different countries. Verena is one of the best teachers Ive met, enthusiastic, pragmatic and clear in her explanations, she makes sure you make the best of each lesson!
I was incredibly pleased with my lesson. Verena was well prepared, assessed my level quickly and had plenty of interesting materials geared toward my level even for our first session together.
I'm very happy with the quality of lessons that Verena is providing. What is particularly wonderful for me is that she is prepared before hand with activities for us to do that directly relate to my goals.
A very patient teacher considering that she created a conversation based lesson for a student with such a low level and provided written feedback on my mistakes without interrupting the flow of the class.
