Detailed Profile in English

About me

April 25, 2016: During the summer months I am busy with other job engagements, and will not be available to teach on Verbalplanet. I will start giving lessons again in December this year.

Before booking lessons with me, have a look at my POLICIES:

- You will be invoiced AFTER every completed lesson unless otherwise agreed

- Lesson cancelled less than 24 hours before it was supposed to take place must be paid

- Part of the lesson cost is a fee that is paid to Verbalplanet for the services they provide. Please do not ask me to make lesson arrangements by bypassing the Verbalplanet booking system

I am Norwegian, currently living in Italy - and having previously lived in the US.

I love arts, reading, knitting, traveling, cooking, eating, hiking, learning new things. This list is not extensive!

Qualifications & Experience

I am a qualified English teacher from Norway, but I have also taught Norwegian to smaller and larger classes in Norwegian schools. I enjoy teaching, and more than anything I enjoy watching my students learning and improving and reaching their goals.

I have taught in Norwegian schools for 13 years, in an Italian public school for one year, and I am currently teaching English through language schools here in Italy in the winter months. However, I would also like to teach Norwegian to people who either need it for work or just want to learn it for pleasure!

Teaching Approach

I believe in having a strong focus on vocabulary learning - also when grammatical structures are studied. When I teach languages, I also teach content. It can be related to cultural aspects in the country of the target language, but it can just as well be about something the student has a particular interest in. Why learn only a language when you at the same time can use that language to learn other things you find interesting, or share your knowledge about certain topics, or discuss about something that is important to you?

In addition to speaking, I also like to use the chat function in Skype to communicate in writing when necessary or useful. I think that student output is as important as teacher input - involving the student makes him or her learn better.

In the first lesson, which is free, I get to know the student, and I assess his or her language level. We also talk about needs and interests, so that the lessons can be tailor made for that particular student.
