Hi there! My name is Emily and I'm from Rhode Island, the smallest state in the United States. I'm an English teacher who loves languages, photography, and great conversations.

I have a passion for traveling which has brought me from Peru to Eastern Europe and from New York to Mexico. For me languages are doors to new opportunities, new jobs and new places, and helping my students open those doors is one of my favourite things about teaching English.

I am TEFL certified and have three years of experience teaching English to groups and individuals at language schools in Chiapas, Mexico.

For the last two years I have also taught one-on-one classes to international students on Skype, and this experience has allowed me to develop effective methods and excellent resources for teaching online.

Classes with me are dynamic, informative and fun.

My approach is based in creating personalized courses, because each student has different reasons for learning and different areas they need to improve. First, I find out what my students want to focus on in their classes. Some want to improve in all areas, while others have more specific needs, such as grammar, listening skills, or advanced conversation.

Then, I discover why they need to learn – for example, to have more career opportunities – and from there I plan classes that help them achieve their goals. I have a huge database of resources to share with you: exercises, audio's, articles, websites, PDF books, you name it.

My students love their classes for their clarity and usefulness, but also because I look for materials that are relevant to their interests and lives. This makes the classes much more interesting and fun for them, and it also truly helps them learn. I look forward to starting with you!

¡Hola! Mi nombre es Emily y soy de Rhode Island, el estado más pequeño de los Estados Unidos. Soy maestra de inglés y me encantan las lenguas, la fotografía y las buenas conversaciones. Tengo una pasión por viajar el cual me ha llevado de Perú a Europa Oriental y de Nueva York a México. Para mí las lenguas son puertas a nuevas oportunidades, nuevos trabajos y nuevos lugares, y lo que más me gusta de enseñar inglés es ayudarles a mis estudiantes a abrir esas puertas.

Soy titulada de TEFL y tengo tres años de experiencia enseñando inglés a grupos e individuos en escuelas de lenguas en Chiapas, México. Por los últimos dos años también he enseñado clases privadas a estudiantes internacionales vía Skype, y esta experiencia me ha permitido desarrollar métodos efectivos y recursos excelentes para enseñar en línea.

Mi método se basa en crear cursos personalizados, porque cada estudiante tiene razones diferentes para aprender y áreas diferentes para mejorar. Primero, pregunto en qué quieren concentrarse mis estudiantes. Algunos quieren mejorar de modo general, mientras otros tienen necesidades más específicas, por ejemplo gramática, comprensión auditiva, o conversación avanzada.

Luego descubro por qué necesitan aprender – por ejemplo, para obtener más oportunidades de trabajo – y a partir de allí planeo clases que les ayudan a lograr sus objetivos. Tengo una gran cantidad de recursos para compartir contigo: ejercicios, audios, artículos, sitios web, libros en PDF, todo lo que puedas imaginar.

A mis estudiantes les encantan mis clases por su claridad y utilidad, pero también porque busco materiales que son relevantes a sus intereses y vidas. Esto hace que las clases sean mucho más interesantes y divertidas para ellos, y verdaderamente les ayuda a aprender. I look forward to starting with you!
