Hi! Guten Tag! Moin!

My name is Urte and I was raised both in Germany and in the United States, New York to be exact and have lived on Long Island for the better part of my life. I am originally from Hamburg / Oldenburg and speak Hochdeutsch. I speak both German and English fluently and without an accent which makes it easier for someone learning the language to understand. I teach both German and English and have completed my graduate work for my Masters in Social Studies / History.

I have been teaching and coaching German to people from all over the world for close to four years on line and approximately a year ago began doing the same in English. It has been a life changing experience and I see my enthusiasm mirrored in my learners. I have also worked for my local school district and a private school for the past 6 years in a teaching capacity.

My prior background is in bank lending and I spent a number of years working for two of Germany's largest banking institutions in New York so I am familiar with business vocabulary as well as day to day usage.

Having lived in two different countries and in two different cultures, I am sensitive to the nuances that make each one unique and also well versed in what to do and not to do in different situations.

Teaching Approach

Everyone has different reasons for learning a language, be it as a hobby, for work, or perhaps because of family background or relatives abroad. Whatever your reason may be, I would love to help you structure a unique approach to your learning style and be your personal live on line tutor.

We can work on the following:

- speaking to co-workers and customers, whether about work or day to day events.

- attaining a level of comfort in your new language skill allowing you to travel independently

- pass exams

Over the past years, I have learned that it isn't always necessary to dissect a language into different grammar rules but that immersion has tremendous rewards and its fun! You should want to look forward to your next lesson and not have it be another obligation in life. I will do my best to make sure that this is the case and that you quickly gain the proficiency to use your new language skills.

Depending on your reason for learning the language, we can structure your program to suit your needs. There will be different exercises encompassing, reading, writing and speaking and when needed grammar.
