I am a Norwegian born and raised in Stavanger, a city located at the south-western coast of Norway. I currently live in Riga, Latvia where I work as a Norwegian teacher.
In my spare time I like to hang out with friends, read books, watch movies and do some writing. I am a very sociable person and I like talking to people, getting different perspectives on things, and learning about new cultures. I have a background in Social anthropology.
I have been teaching Norwegian for about two years, and had several hundred students in total. Some of the students I have had as private students - teaching them either in classrooms or on the internet. The majority of students have been part of Scandinavian corporations, which demand their employees learn Norwegian in order to do their work. These are normally trained in bigger groups in traditional group lessons. I have been teaching at A1, A2, B1 and B2 level.
I have had students of several languages, ranging from Latvian and Russian to German and Spanish, and I have gotten some insights into how different languages differ/are built up. As I have experience with living in the US I speak English very fluently, and I do have an extensive English vocabulary.
My teaching style is very Scandinavian. I do not have an authoritarian approach which is common in many cultures, but try to have more of an "even leveled", diplomatic approach.
It is important to be able to have some fun throughout the teaching process, and the student should feel free to be open and honest with me. That being said, I am strict when it comes to homework and other assignments.
I can offer my students:
- lessons from a real classroom with a huge white board.
- lessons at almost any day of the week - during weekdays and in weekends.
- Individually tailored long term plans for students at any level (from beginner level to advanced), based on the students interests and needs.
- broad knowledge about language history, Norwegian culture, dialect traits and much more.
First lesson - Tore helped me understand where my current weaknesses lie and recommended a plan of action moving forward.
i liked very much how he learn me to correct my Norwegian´s mistakes and i like as well how he prepared our first lessons. It was amusing and interesting. He knows how to teach.
Great first lesson! Very insightful and informative.
