About me - English
Hi,
My name is Benjamin and I am an English Teacher from Melbourne, Australia. Currently I'm living in Sao Paulo, Brazil teaching English to varying types of students, so far I have been here for almost 2 years. This has been an amazing experience, which has helped me grow, and additionally I now speak Portuguese at an Advanced/Fluent level.
My working life outside the realm of teaching consists of both public and private sector jobs, firstly working in finance then before I moved to Brazil two years ago I worked as an Immigration officer for the Australian government. I absolutely love to travel and have had the privilege to travel all over the world, including Europe and South America, my hobbies are golf, basketball, tennis and swimming.
I love teaching and watching my students grow each and every week, my passion to help individuals continuously learn inspires me. I completed a 120 TESOL course quite a few years ago and always knew that I wanted to become a teacher.
Previously I studied a Bachelor of International Business at La Trobe University in Melbourne where I also worked as a Student Learning Advisor in which my job was to help local and foreign students with: Essay planning, projects, exams and general study assistance.
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor of International Business (La Trobe University, Melbourne, Australia)
- 120 hour TESOL course (Melbourne, Australia)
- Student Learning Advisor (La Trobe University): My job was to assist International Students with improving their English for university purposes, for example: preparing for exams, writing essays and organising presentations.
- I have experience teaching English in both Australia and Brazil (3 years)
Teaching Approach
My approach is very casual and relaxed, the most important thing for me is to make sure each student feels comfortable as they learn. I am very friendly and extremely easy to talk to.
I use a very communicative approach having my students do majority of the talking, working on improving vocabulary, pronunciation and general speaking skills. Each student is different therefore I may alter the way I teach depending on the student.
Helping my students to progress and grow is the most important thing, I work with students to develop objectives for their future. In my classes I like to use a whole variety of material from books, articles, videos etc.
I love to discuss all different types of topics in class from business meetings, travel, current events and everything else under the sun.
