I am married with two grown up children with whom I remain very close (though one is in Vancouver, Canada) - Skype is very useful in this regard!
I am an avid reader in English and French and have written a number of books of fiction, poetry and biography, though my early training was scientific and my main career was in industry. I love France, the French people and French literature. I love education - and people often praise my approach towards this subject. I have a neutral and easily understood English accent. I am a keen and capable amateur cellist with a wide repertoire, and I perform at local festivals and solo recitals and continue to improve through daily practice. I enjoy gardening very much.
My qualifications include CELTA (Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults), PGCE (Post Graduate Certificate in Education) as well as a BSc degree in Physics and Mathematics, two years of Open University Diploma in French, and an ATCL Performer's Diploma in Cello.
I have seven years' recent experience teaching English as a second language to individual resident Homestay students, both general English and Business English for professional people at all levels from beginners to advanced and all ages. As well as teaching these students I cooked meals and provided activities, excursions and visits to places of interest. I have also taught classes of teenagers in Summer Schools, and refugees. I also tutor in Mathematics.
I am flexible regarding teaching times, so feel free to discuss other times than shown in the published schedule.
I provide a good grounding in grammar and practical use of English using the communicative method – including using a large range of my own systematic and proven resources. At an advanced level I offer assistance in clarity of logical expression which builds competence and confidence in my students, and I have taught for the TOEIC examination.
While my industrial experience is useful to understanding the needs of my business students, my students always need and wish to improve their general use of English in a wide variety of contexts and I am able to adapt to their needs and provide lessons of value, interest, inspiration and enjoyment for all, even absolute beginners.
A highly intelligent person & an extremely good tutor. His dedication and passion and preparation made my lessons worthwhile. His teaching methods are easy to understand. I’ve learnt so much already. I highly recommend him.
