I am a 32-year-old Colombian with 12-years teaching experience. Teaching is my passion and learning from my students is my number one hobby.

Though my mother tongue is Spanish, I consider English as a sub-mother tongue, if you will, as I lived in the United States for a total of 10 years, in Florida, Georgia and Ohio from an early age. I currently live in Colombia, my home country, in the beautiful city of Villavicencio, just a 2-hour drive from the capital city, Bogotá. I am married and have a gorgeous and intelligent 3-year-old daughter.

I have been a Spanish and English teacher for 12 years now, focusing, mostly, on English, as it is my absolute passion. I've taught English in the United States, for a period of 4 years, and in my home country of Colombia for a total of 8 years.

I have experience teaching people of all ages, all the way from months old (experience with my own daughter; she actually understands and speaks both Spanish and English). Professionally, though, I've taught children (starting at 5 years old), teenagers, young adults, adults and even seniors! I've also taught people from 3 completely different cultures: Americans, Colombians and Chinese.

I've opted for private tutoring mostly because students seem to enjoy the language when they are part of very small groups or, more conveniently, one-on-one. Private tutoring allows me to have a much better and stronger connection with my students and, when taking advantage of technology and how easily it can connect people with one another, no matter where in the planet they are located, it is more possible, now more than ever, easier to make this a reality.

The key to learning a language, no matter which one that is, is getting into its mentality. Living in a non-English-speaking country or, of course, a non-Spanish speaking country can make the learning process difficult... if you don't know what that process should be. With me you will learn how to get into that second language mentality by thinking about the language you wish to learn from the moment you wake up in the morning!

Remember when you were a baby? A child? Do you ever remember asking for a cup of water and your mother correcting you right away on how it should be done? "Look, first, you need to use the subject, followed by the verb and ending with a noun. Oh, I love you, you little marshmallow!" That doesn't sound familiar, does it? Maybe the "little marshmallow" part, or whatever your mother's favorite thing was to call and refer to you. This is natural approach. By first learning how to communicate your needs and ideas and then learning the correct grammatical way is, and I say this by experience, the best and most revolutionary way to learn a new language. Instead of focusing on the verb, noun, adjective, pronoun, etc, you're going to use when expressing ideas, focus on the actual language! When you are having a conversation, you cannot afford to take the time to think about translating words; instead, think in the language you want to communicate in, from the very beginning.

All this is aided with extra activities that you can very well do while having breakfast, taking a shower or even driving to and from work. I will help you get into that second language mentality from the moment you open your eyes in the morning, to the moment you close them and actually fall asleep, no matter what your main objective in learning another language is, whether it's business, leisure or simply because you love learning other languages and about other cultures!

Soy un Colombiano de 32 años de edad con 12 años de experiencia enseñando idiomas. Mi pasión es la enseñanza y mi hobby número uno es aprender de mis alumnos.

Aunque el español es mi lengua materna, considero el inglés como una lengua sub-materna, ya que viví 10 años de mi vida en los Estados Unidos en los estados de Florida, Georgia y Ohio, desde una temprana edad. Ahora mismo vivo en Colombia, mi país natal, en la hermosa ciudad de Villavicencio, a tan solo dos horas de la capital, Bogotá. Estoy casado y tengo una hermosa e inteligente hija de 3 añitos.

He sido profesor de inglés y español por 12 años, enfocándome, más que todo, en el inglés, ya que es mi gran pasión. He enseñado inglés como Segundo Idioma y español en los Estados Unidos, por 4 años, y en mi país, Colombia, por un total de 8 años.

Tengo experiencia enseñando a personas de todas las edades, desde tan solo meses (experiencia con mi hija; ella entiende y se comunica en inglés y en español). ¡Sin embargo, profesionalmente, he enseñado a chicos desde los 5 años de edad, a adolescentes, adultos jóvenes, adultos e incluso a seniors! También he enseñado a 3 culturas completamente diferentes: la Americana, la Colombiana y la China.

He escogido dar tutorías privadas, más que todo, porque los estudiantes parecen disfrutar más el idioma cuando son parte de grupos muy reducidos o, por mayor conveniencia, clases de tú a tú. Las Tutorías privadas me permiten tener una mejor y más fuerte conexión con mis estudiantes y, al aprovechar los avances tecnológicos y la facilidad de conectarse con otras personas, sin importar en qué parte del planeta estén, es más posible, ahora más que nunca, mucho más fácil hacer de esto una realidad.

Ya sea inglés o español lo que quieres aprender, tengo eso cubierto. He aprendido, a través de los años, diferentes técnicas y metodologías as cuales han sido, y seguirán siendo útiles para cualquier situación y cualquier tipo de estudiante.

¡ADOPTA TU MENTALIDAD DE INGLÉS A TRAVÉS DEL ACERCAMIENTO NATURAL!

La clave para aprender un idioma, sin importar cuál sea, es tomando esa misma mentalidad. El vivir en un país donde no se habla inglés o, por supuesto, uno en donde no se habla español, puede hacer éste proceso un poco difícil... si no sabes cómo adoptarlo. ¡Conmigo aprenderás cómo adoptar esa mentalidad de un segundo idioma al pensar sobre éste desde el momento en que te despiertas en la mañana!

¿Recuerdas cuando eras una bebé? ¿Un infante? ¿Recuerdas haber pedido un vaso de agua y que tu mamá te corrigiera sobre la manera correcta de decirlo? "Mira, primero, tienes que utilizar el sujeto, luego el verbo y terminar con un sustantivo. ¡Oh, te amo, mi pequeño bombón de caramelo!" Eso no suena familiar, o sí? Tal vez la parte del "bombón de caramelo" o lo cual fuera la palabra favorita de tu mamá para ti. Esto es ACERCAMIENTO NATURAL. Al primero aprender cómo comunicar tus necesidades e ideas y luego aprendiendo la forma gramatical correcta, y digo esto por experiencia, es la mejor y más revolucionaria forma de aprender un nuevo idioma. ¡En vez de concentrarte en el verbo, sustantivo, adjetivo, pronombre, etc. que vas a utilizar para expresarte, concéntrate en el idioma como tal! Cuando estás entablando una conversación, no puedes darte el lujo de tomar tu tiempo en pensar cómo traducir las palabras; en vez de esto, piensa en el lenguaje en el que te quieres comunicar, desde el principio.

Todo esto es complementado con actividades extra, las cuales puedes hacer, perfectamente, mientras tomas tu desayuno, mientras te duchas o incluso mientras están conduciendo tu carro para y desde el trabajo. Te ayudaré a meterte en esa mentalidad de un segundo idioma desde el momento en que abres los ojos por la mañana hasta el momento en que los cierras y quedas dormido, sin importar cuál es tu principal interés en aprender un nuevo idioma; ¡sea para negocios, para viajes de vacaciones con tu familia o simplemente porque es tu pasión aprender otros idiomas y sobre otras culturas!
