Detailed Profile in English

About me

Hello! / Alsalamu Alaikum!

My name is Muthanna and I currently live in North Carolina. I’m a native Arabic speaker and teacher. Mainly, I teach Modern Standard Arabic but can also teach Lebanese, Egyptian and Levantine dialects.

I have a Bachelor's degree in linguistics and translation and I fluently speak Arabic, English, and Turkish. I also speak German and French at a conversational level.

I have lived in several Arabic contries, the U.S, and Turkey. For me, living in different countries with unique cultures and languages has enriched my life and helped me to understand other people.

Teaching Arabic is fun for me because I enjoy meeting new people from around the world and sharing my passion for learning with each student. It makes me happy to observe the growth of students as they improve their speaking and understanding of this amazing language.

I’m organized and motivated. I’m also patient with my students because, as a lover of new languages, I’ve been there once and know that learning a language requires as much patience as it does hard work.

Learning languages has been my life-long passion, and no matter how many languages I learn, I am always eager to discover more.

Understanding a different language is fun for me, because it gives me a happy feeling whenever I am able to read and understand a written news statement in German, listen and understand a Turkish song, or watch a TV show in French. Such moments make me proud and are proof to me that I have reached a point where things that were once ambiguous are now clear.

The difficult part for me is when it comes to speaking the new language, Although I try speaking it by talking in my head or to an imaginary figure sometimes, not having a native speaker around to talk with and to hear him talking back in response was a huge difficulty. I decided to be here on Verbalplanet to offer that possibility and have one-on-one conversations with Arabic learners, sharing my knowledge, experience, and love of teaching languages.

Qualifications & Experience

I have a Bachelor's degree in linguistics and translation and I fluently speak Arabic, English, and Turkish. I also speak German and French at a conversational level.

I've taught Arabic for students from the U.S, Germany, Turkey, France, and Brazil. I've worked in the field of linguistics for several well-known global firms and have also provided simultaneous translation and freelance translation for other firms.

Teaching Approach

I consider teaching Arabic to be my responsibility, and it is something that I enjoy, as well. Through my time spent teaching languages, I've experienced a number of helpful techniques, but most importantly, I've realized that each individual has a unique way of learning.

In your first lesson with me--which I'm offering as a free trial-- I get to know you, your level of comprehension, and your weaknesses. Accordingly, I will figure out the most proper way to structure your future lessons.

There are certain principals that I consider important while teaching any student, such as giving you the opportunity to practice speaking as much as possible, and focusing on one or two pieces of feedback per lesson, so that you do not feel overwhelmed with too much information.
