Hi! My name is Ira. I am a native Russian speaker and a teacher of Russian and English. In 2012 I moved from Moscow to San Francisco to get a Master's degree in linguistics from San Francisco State University. My education and my experience living abroad help me understand the needs of a language learner. I am an expert in phonetics and sociolinguistics. Phonetics explains how the sounds are produced and perceived, so I can help you with accent reduction and with understanding of other people's speech. Sociolinguistics is the study of language in context, social norms and expectations. I am familiar with different language styles, and will help you learn academic, business, or conversational language. Our lessons will be designed to meet your specific needs. Students of all levels are welcome. See you in class!

In my classes you will start speaking from the Day One. I believe that language is a means of communication, not a set of rules. Of course you need grammar to speak properly, so we will discuss various grammar concepts; but grammar rules are useless in isolation, so we will begin with talking.
I prefer to start from the meaning that you want to express, and from a situation that you are in. This method is proven to be effective, and it is way more fun than just learning grammar drills. I always try to make my classes fun, and relevant to my students' interests. Tell me what you like to talk about! I will customize our classes according to your needs and expectations. See you in class!
