I have been teaching Hindi since 2001 when I passed the screening examination of teaching Hindi in colleges. As Hindi is my mother tongue I have a native command over Hindi.
Before graduation, I decided to opt for Hindi Literature as my major subject along with History. My connection with this powerful language kept growing and I decided to study this language at highest level, so I joined the University for MA in Hindi where I developed my understanding of basics linguistics, Hindi language, and its literature.
After my M.A., I passed the previously said examination in 2001 which is ‘SLET’ in India that means State Level Eligibility Test for teaching Hindi in state colleges. Later I passed the national exam (NET) for the same too, which qualifies you to teach all over India. Next year of M.A., I gained admission to the M.Phil. program in Hindi, where I studied the research methods for doing further research in the field of Hindi language. Along with studying, I presented a thesis on post-independence Hindi stories which developed not only my understanding of society but also with the fact that slow changes take place in the language in the field of usage and especially in the vocabulary.
I started freelance, working with English-speaking foreign nationals from USA, Europe and with Russia. I provided them research assistance, interpretation, and Hindi language classes. I also worked with AIIS (American Institute of Indian Studies) as a Hindi teacher, which is a well-known name for providing instruction in Indian languages.
I joined an undergraduate college for teaching Hindi literature meanwhile I started Ph.D. in the Hindi language with a prestigious University with a scholarship. After the Ph.D. I started work with Antioch University’s abroad semester program in India as a language instructor (professor). This is a prestigious program running for 35 years as a residential program in India. Here I have worked since 2010. I am responsible for designing the syllabus, teaching and grading my students.
I am not aware just with the language but also with the principles of linguistics, phonetics, and teaching methodology. I am known to mix fun while learning.
I have a very patient approach towards teaching and try to make the content and delivery specific to the requirements of the student. I try to mix fun while teaching.
I encourage students to put their efforts at a high level which is possible if the class is well structured but flexible according to the student's needs. At advance level, I use innovative ideas with story making or discussion on random topics.
From the beginning of my course I encourage my students to participate at the greatest possible level whenever they have the chance to do so. In my first class, I greet them and introduce myself in Hindi and get them to introduce themselves to me. Then I ask them to pronounce every word and familiarise themselves with the sounds of the words. I also advise them to be mindful of their lip-movements during this exercise, knowing that mouth muscle-memory is essential to picking up a new language. This also makes the classroom environment cheerful and active.
I patiently persist and encourage my students. When they succeed, I show them signs of their success with a smile and encouraging words. Students can also submit written work.
My course is based on proven courses running all over USA universities. Of course, changes are made to accommodate person to person requirements.
