About me - English
Hi! I am a highly experienced English language teacher, who has taught adults in private language schools in Boston, Massachusetts, New York City, Tokyo, Japan and Christchurch, New Zealand. I also taught a study-and-ski class in Queenstown, New Zealand!
I am currently teaching adults to speak English at a program run by the University Of Massachusetts, Dartmouth called the Workers' Education Program, which is ranked in the top four programs in the State. Our focus is on helping our students develop the skills necessary to follow their career ambitions.
In addition, I have a professional teaching license for teaching students in grades 5 - 12 in Massachusetts, and have taught all grade levels in local public schools for over 10 years.
I am a very friendly and professional teacher who genuinely enjoys getting to know people from other cultures and helping them improve their English. I have been tutoring on Wyzant.com for about 6 years now and have many great reviews there. Students enjoy my lessons because I have a passion for languages, a talent for explaining grammar and vocabulary (I'm quite artistic so students also enjoy it when I illustrate new concepts), and because I take the time to make my lessons highly engaging and motivating to my students, by customizing lessons based on their interests. I also have a good sense of humor and a wide variety of interests, such as film, photography, travel, skiing, Spanish and Japanese language and culture, environmental issues to name a few, so conversation with me is never dull! I have traveled throughout Europe and Asia, as well as the U.S., México, Australia, New Zealand (where I grew up) and Quebec province in Canada.

Masters degree in Linguistics/ESOL from the University of Massachusetts, Boston
Bachelors Degree in Linguistics and Japanese from the University of Canterbury, New Zealand
RSA certificate in teaching ESOL to adults, from a language school in Manhattan, NY
Professional license in ESOL grades 5-12 for state of Massachusetts
Intermediate level Japanese and Spanish language
Teaching Approach
I believe in making lessons focused on authentic communication, building vocabulary and ability to accurately use advanced grammar in natural (and interesting). contexts.
I use a wide variety of grammar texts so can easily adjust to my student's level, but adapt the grammar to contexts relevant to the real world and each student's interests and needs.
