The minimum internet requirements are a dial-up connection with at least a 33.6Kbps modem. However, a broadband internet connection will enable you to get the best results from Skype.

Do I need to speak more than one language?

Yes - To register as a tutor with Verbalplanet you will need to be able to speak at least one language in addition to your native language.

The Verbalplanet system works by matching language students with teachers who can speak both the student's native language and the language they wish to learn.

Do I need formal language qualifications?

No - We appreciate that people develop their language skills in different ways, for example through study or from a substantial period of living abroad.

Anyone who can fluently speak two languages can register as a tutor on Verbalplanet.com and place a tuition profile within our marketplace.

All we ask is that you abide by our Terms and Conditions and that your tuition profile, as advertised within our marketplace is a true and fair representation of your skills and abilities.

Misrepresenting yourself will ultimately only lead to a poor rating from students and a low level of bookings.

It's all common sense really.

Can I work at times to suit me?

Yes - Verbalplanet.com is extremely flexible because you decide when you want to work using your own personal online work planner.

Simply select the times that you wish to work and we'll find you students who want to learn at the times that you want to teach.

Can I decide how much to charge?

Yes - With Verbalplanet you decide how much to charge for your time.

Once you've joined you'll be asked to set a rate and currency for each language. This is the fee you will invoice your student and keep.

How can students get in touch with me?

Registered Verbalplanet students can get in touch with you through your Verbalplanet account in a number of ways:-

Potential students can request a 'Learning Plan' from you to outline how you can help them learn their chosen language.

Students can send you an 'Availability Enquiry' to ask when you may be available to teach if your personal work planner is not showing any available lesson times.

Students can send you normal messages or ask any questions of their own.

You will be notified at your registered email address whenever you have a new booking, message or enquiry from a student.

How do I get paid by my students?

Receiving payment from your clients is easy.

Once you have a new booking we will notify you by email at your registed email address and through your Verbalplanet account.

You then simply need to invoice your student for your lesson fee using PayPal. This can be done before or after the lesson has taken place, the choice is yours. All of the details you need to invoice your student using PayPal will be shown on your personal 'invoicing page' together with useful tools to help you keep track of your invoices and receipts.

Your clients will then pay you directly using PayPal. It's simple, secure and best of all you keep 100% of the amount you decide to charge.

What about time zones and currencies?

Your Verbalplanet account is automatically configured to display all information in your local time zone and currency making it easy for you to teach students from anywhere in the world.

How does the tutor rating system work?

Our tutor rating system is designed to help both you and prospective students.

Following each lesson, students will leave a feedback rating and comment for you. They do this by answering two simple questions as follows:-

Would you rate your lesson as Positive or Negative?

What mark out of 10 would you give for your lesson?

We compile the answers to these questions for every lesson you have taught and present the results as follows:-

A % figure, being the % of students that left Positive +VE feedback for you.

A star rating. Simply put, the higher the average mark out of 10 you have; the more gold stars you get.

By default our tuition marketplace will always list tutors with the highest rating first.

Why is the rating system of benefit to me?

Verbalplanet.com is a market for language tuition services and our rating system provides a valuable and unique way for students to differentiate between tutors.

By default our marketplace will always show rated tutors before unrated tutors so once you become rated on Verbalplanet.com you will automatically start to attract more and more clients as your placement in our marketplace improves.

Rated tutors have a higher earning potential than unrated tutors and receive a higher level of new enquiries.

Can I teach more than one language?

Yes - With Verbalplanet you can teach as many languages as you can speak and set a different lesson fee for each language if you like.
