I'm a native English speaker, born in the UK, now living in the USA, with 5 years' experience teaching English as a Foreign Language/Second Language. I studied architecture in Scotland, moved to Germany and worked as an architect and English tutor. Later, I came to the USA with my husband who was a US citizen. After working as a registered architect, I returned to English teaching in 2011. I love teaching English, and helping others to speak my language.

My students have covered a wide range: European and Asian business people; older adults living in the USA but just learning to read in English; new US immigrants; and students in private language schools in Italy and the USA. I have taught English courses on the themes of architecture, business and negotiation.

I love looking at architecture; I also really enjoy showing European and Asian students the difference between negotiating in the USA and in their own cultures. With every student, I am very patient and encouraging. My lessons are fun, with games, quizzes and role-playing.

I have a Bachelor of Architecture (Honours) degree, from Edinburgh College of Art/ Heriot - Watt University, Edinburgh, Scotland, and the CELTA qualification ( Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) qualification (2012 Milan). I have 5 years of teaching English one-on-one and to small groups: in adult education programs in the USA, and private language schools in Germany, Italy and the USA. Currently I teach in a private language school near Washington.

Teaching Approach, Payment and Cancellation Policy:

During the first lesson, I'll assess your speaking ability for pronunciation and knowledge of grammar. I'll design a customized program for your goals; for example, increasing fluency, language for business or social occasions, or English for academic needs. The first sessions will focus on listening and speaking, with speaking exercises for you to improve your confidence in saying the words correctly. After that your program will focus on

• Grammar, vocabulary and the everyday idioms that you need

• Role plays to reinforce particular points of speech

• Listening to voice audio on current events, or themes that interest you

• Watching English language TV programs on the Web, at levels of speech that you can understand

• Fun games and quizzes to increase your vocabulary
