Hi, my name is Cait, and I am an experienced and certified English tutor from the USA. My lessons are:

One of my specialties is that I can type very, very fast! When a student makes a pronunciation or grammar mistake, I type the sentence containing the mistake in a word document. Later, we review and correct all of the mistakes together. After the lesson, each student has the option to receive a personalized document via email showing mistakes and corrections, feedback, and (if they want one) a homework assignment.

ABOUT ME:

For the past 3 years I have been teaching students both on skype and in person. I love this job for 2 reasons:

1. I love travel! I have been travelling for 6 years now and have spent time living, volunteering, working, and exploring all over Asia, Europe, Australia, and more. So far I have been to 24 countries! This job enables me to travel. I can do this job from anywhere!

2. When I teach on skype, it's almost like travelling without ever having to leave my computer. The world comes to me! Sometimes I think that I learn just as much as the students just from talking with people from different places and backgrounds.

Aside from teaching English and travelling, I like: rock climbing, bouldering, vegan baking and cooking, board games, visiting ecovillages, meditation/mindfulness practice, and learning about sustainable living and Buddhist philosophy.

Education:

TESOL Certificate - Marlboro College Graduate School, 2012-2013. Earned a certificate in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.

BA Degree - Marlboro College, 2008-2013. Wrote a comprehensive 150-page thesis and received a grade of A-.

Experience:

Cait's Skype English: 2013-current. I have been tutoring students on Skype for 3 years. I have developed many lesson plans and curriculum designs for all ages and levels.

Learnship Academy: July 2016-current. Beginning this month, I will also teach Business English on Skype for Learnship, a well-known online learning company with a great reputation.

Reading Town Shanghai: Summer 2013. Taught English reading, writing, grammar, vocabulary, and conversation to children between the ages of 5-14 at a summer program in Shanghai, China.

Tashi Boarding School: Spring 2013. Completed a teaching internship at a school for destitute Himalayan children in Kathmandu, Nepal. Designed my own lessons and taught conversation, grammar, reading, writing, debate, and environmental studies to students aged 5-15.

My teaching style is lighthearted, fun, good-humored, and dynamic. During my lessons, students talk a lot, learn new words, and practice whatever skills they wish to improve. It is important to me that learning takes place in a relaxed, atmosphere; when the student associates learning English with positive feelings, they will learn faster. I am detail-oriented and able to correct mistakes and give clear, helpful feedback while delivering these things in a fun way.

All lesson plans and curriculum designs are tailored to the individual needs and wants of students. For example, if you want to work on improving your pronunciation and speaking confidence, we would pick a conversation topic, discuss it, and practice pronouncing difficult words whenever they arise. If you want to work on IELTS preparation, we will do IELTS practice activities and I will make corrections whenever there are mistakes. If you want to work on gaining new vocabulary, we will read aloud in English and talk about unrecognized / new words. Whatever you would like to learn or improve, I can design and deliver a lesson or curriculum to help.
