I am a bilingual (English-Spanish) English teacher.

My first language is English but as my mother is Spanish, I have an almost equally strong handle on the Spanish language and to some extent, French. I grew up in a variety of countries including Libya, Hungary, the USA, Mexico D.F., Portugal, Spain and the UK.

I enjoy teaching because it has given me the opportunity to learn about many different areas of business and different types of people.

Although my degree is in Social and Cultural studies which I feel is an asset to understanding and applying myself to international business practices, I have been working as an English teacher in Madrid for 12 years both in-company and privately to all levels whether they be in group classes or individually.

My work ethic revolves around finding the key to each student´s learning mechanisms, making sure to keep in step with their specific needs and renewing and maintaining their interest in the language and in the learning process by being lively and adaptable.

Being a teacher means having an instinct for the direction a learning course should take depending on the levels and needs of each student. There are 6 fundamental areas to study when learning a new language. These are grammar, vocabulary, speaking (and pronunciation), reading, listening and writing. All areas are interdependent if you want to fully understand and use the language but depending on your level and personal strengths and weaknesses, it may be more appropriate to focus on grammar to give you more structure, on speaking for increased fluency, on reading and writing for work related tools, on listening to a variety of accents for travelling and working abroad or simply on expanding vocabulary which is important at all levels but also requires out of class study time which can be made easier with the use of my MP3 files for themed vocabulary.

I have taught English for 10 years and seen many books which have either been too abstract or boring but I would recommend the Grammar and Vocabulary in Use series. Although using a book is sometimes considered too passive and tedious, the secret lies in choosing the right book and with the help of a lively teacher, this does not happen. Supplementary exercises provide out of class reinforcement.

I have designed a method myself that features all the components interlinked as well as a focus on discussion skills. New vocabulary will appear and at home study will include learning these new words using my MP3 files and doing writing exercises which take up valuable class time.

There would be occasional listenings and (if desired) role plays which may need some extra preparation as may mini debates or presentations.
