Hi there! My name is Teacher Jeff, and I have been teaching English for 9 years in total. I received my elementary education certificate in the state of Illinois, United States in 2010. I taught for 3 years in an elementary classroom: 1st and 2nd grade. There, I used Common Core to assess students on their English grammar, fluency, reading comprehension, and writing. I transitioned to South Korea where I taught internationally for three years in Incheon. I started in a Kindergarten classroom where most of the teaching came straight from a book. Common everyday phrases were taught and emphasized. The more creative teaching came from the next two years, I was lucky enough to expand my English teaching horizon in 4th and 6th grade. Much like teaching in the states, I taught all of the same English subjects: grammar, writing, comprehension, and fluency. I consider myself very knowledgeable and skilled in teaching English as I have not only taught locally here in the United States, but also internationally to ESL students.

My certification comes from the state of Illinois. I received it in 2010, and I am eligible to teach until the year 2023. I have 9 years of teaching experience altogether: 3 years in Chicago, 3 years abroad in South Korea, and 3 years teaching via Skype, 1-1, adult lessons, and at English centers in Chicago. I also taught for a few months at Kaplan International. There, I worked with ESL students from all over the world. These students ranged in age from 16 to over 50, so I had to adapt my teaching to many different types of students and learning styles.

My teaching approach involves detail, empathy, and consistency. With each lesson that I teach, I guarantee a very focused and attentive demeanor which allows students to feel comfortable to make mistakes and eager to try harder. Because students see me very vested in their learning, I have seen students over my tenure in education try harder and work more to improve their learning. I like to give students the tools they need to succeed instead of just giving them the answer. I ask a lot of open-ended questions, which allow students to think rather than memorize. This way, students learn faster with me as their teacher.
