Über mich - Englisch
My name is Benjamin Mortlock and I am a professional educator of English and music with experience teaching English at university, privately and online, both in the United Kingdom and Greece. I have been teaching for 9 years and worked as a professional musician. I graduated from The Academy of Contemporary Music with a Bachelor of music and I became a lecturer there and a tutor for the English GCSE & A level program. After working as a professional guitarist around Europe, I moved to Greece to continue but also became an online ESL instructor.
For 1 and a half years I have lived in Greece, teaching students English both online, privately and worked for Greek companies. I believe teaching is one of my most valuable skills and have provided personalised English tuition to thousands of students from countries such as Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Spain, Brazil, Greece and Turkey.
Abschlüsse und Erfahrung
I have an accredited TEFL certification. I graduated from The Academy of Contemporary Music with a Bachelor of music, where I became a music lecturer and tutor for the English GCSE & A level workshops. I have been living in Greece for 1 year and 6 months teaching students English both online, privately and worked as a contractor, providing English tuition to employees at various Greek companies.
I have provided personalised English tuition, employed by an online company, tutoring thousands of students from countries such as Korea, Japan, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Thailand, Spain, Brazil and Turkey. Through this employment role my communication skills have sharpened, as has my understanding of grammatical structure in different languages. This has allowed me to pick up small amounts of Chinese and Japanese.
I have been fully studying Korean for 7 months and have been using it daily in my teaching along with English. I have specialised in IELTS and TOEIC exams, Business English, Conversation, phrasal verbs, pronunciation and more. I have edited the academic writing for many university students within Asia.
I have taught business and general English to employees from companies such as Samsung, Toyota, Nissan, Huawei, Sony, Amazon, Tama to name a few.
I personally have a strong focus on the development of English speaking, providing students with the confidence and ability they need to work not only in their home country but abroad. A large number of my students, upon finishing their studies with me have moved to Foreign countries or worked in their home country and now use English in their employment.
Lehransatz
My teaching approach differs whether I'm teaching young learners, beginners, intermediate, advanced or business students. However some parts of my approach are similar for each. The use of pictures, repeated speech patterns, grammar structures, vocabulary grouping, mock interviews and role play all help develop a student's confidence and ability.
For young learners:
I believe the use of props to interact with young learners is excellent to help teach vocabulary, such as nouns. Then using physical actions is extremely effective when teaching verbs. Lastly I believe that positive reinforcement is extremely important. Clapping, cheering and presenting the student with praise whenever they get an answer correct or try hard.
For all learners:
I strongly believe that engaging with learners by being able to relate to a student by showing your understanding of their situation and it's difficulties is vital in order to establish a great learning connection.
Truly understanding the process that learners go through when trying to form spoken sentences, is important in order to help them progress and form sentences correctly. I often find that learners use the grammatical structure of the native language and translate into English. So I personally like showing students that I understand the grammatical structure of their language and that I too understand how difficult it is to form sentences in a different language.
