Hi. My name is Simon Cantle. Originally from just outside of London, I have lived in Lisbon, Portugal since 2001. I'm 55 years old and I'm a native English speaker and a qualified English Language Teacher with over 18 years teaching experience at all ages and levels from young children to adults.

I am an English as a Foreign Language Teacher with over 17 years experience. I am CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching for Adults) CELTYL (Cambridge Certificate in Language Teaching for Young Learners) and International House Certificate in Teaching Young Learners qualified as well as being an accredited Teacher Trainer and previously an approved IELTS examiner.

I worked at British Council in Lisbon, Portugal for 17 years where I taught very young children, teenagers and adults from 7 years old to 70. I have experience in all aspects of language teaching including exam preparation. I have also presented at various English Language Teaching Conferences on a variety of topics.

Previously I taught English in Spain to adults and young learners.

Before becoming an English Language Teacher I was a qualified Child Protection Social Worker.

With my experience and qualifications, I am easily able to draw up individually tailored language programs to suit a variety of needs and contexts. I take a student centered approach and believe that it is important to look at all the skills, speaking, listening, reading and writing to give learners a fully rounded grasp and understanding of English.

I use a variety of materials, believing strongly in using authentic materials - newspaper articles, videos etc as much as possible and provide specific activities for self-study.

With a free initial lesson, I will work with you to look at your level and at your strengths and weaknesses and together we can draw up a learning plan that will best suit your needs whether that be to improve your general conversation or to help you prepare for an exam. I can also be very flexible when it comes to lesson times and can often be available for you outside of the stated availability times.
