Hello! I’m a 31-years-old woman from Finland. I have taught Finnish as a second language since 2015.

I started teaching on Verbalplanet in January 2018 when I was living in Iceland. Now I'm back in Finland, and I continue teaching online and face-to-face in Oulu. Lessons are generally available on weekdays, and at weekends on request.

I offer different types of lessons. Here are some examples - for more information, just send me a message and let's talk what would be the best option for you. I always adjust the lesson to the needs of the individual student.

For students with basic knowledge of Finnish. Discussion sessions when you just want to maintain or improve your Finnish conversational skills. You decide the topic and then we just talk :)

This lesson doesn't include any prior preparation or materials provided by the teacher. If you want to e.g. review / learn grammar, get vocabulary materials or do structured exercises, book a regular lesson.

40 € / 45 min + Verbalplanet booking fee

If you need help with your homework or e.g. want to go through a text you have written, you can book a Study Support lesson. This is a good option also if you study Finnish independently: you can book a session every now and then to ask the questions you have been wondering about!

This lesson doesn't include any prior preparation or materials provided by the teacher. If you would like me to prepare you exercises and activities to practice a specific language point, book a regular lesson.

Cancellation policy: Please note that cancelling or rescheduling a lesson is possible 24 hours before the lesson through the website. In an emergency, you can cancel the lesson 12 hours before by sending me a message. Otherwise I'll need to charge you the lesson price, because I have reserved you the teaching slot and planned your lesson. Thank you for understanding.

I am a graduate (MA) from the University of Oulu, Finland, where I studied Finnish, Finnish as a second language, English and education. In addition to teaching Finnish, I’m a qualified TEFL (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) teacher.

During my studies I gave private Finnish lessons to adults and taught intensive courses. I also volunteered to teach immigrant women in a language club. In addition to teaching Finnish for adults, in autumn 2017 I worked as an English teacher in primary schools in Vietnam. I enjoy the different aspects in teaching both children and adults.

I have studied several languages myself: in addition to English, I speak some German, Swedish, Russian and Estonian, so I know how it feels to learn a new language. I also know that Finnish isn’t a particularly easy language to master. However, I’m ready to help you on the way whether it’s the tricky grammar rules or the secrets of the spoken language you want to tackle.

My teaching is based on the communicative approach. The best way to learn a language is to use it, and that’s why I’ll encourage you to use all you know, and we’ll start to build on that. Put it another way, you should first learn the things that are the most relevant to you as a language user.

In my teaching, I like to create a variety of interactive opportunities, such as role-plays, games, questions and discussions. I also like to use media, for example short news articles or video clips, so that you’ll see and hear Finnish in a natural context. On top of that, you’ll learn more about the culture that comes together with the language.

I’m offering a discounted first lesson where we can talk about your aims and wishes, so that we can concentrate on the things that are the most important for you. My aim is to offer lessons that are personalised, engaging, interactive and fun!

Hei! Olen 31-vuotias suomalainen nainen. Suomi on äidinkieleni. Olen opettanut suomea toisena kielenä vuodesta 2015.

Aloitin opettamaan Verbalplanetin kautta tammikuussa 2018, kun asuin Islannissa. Nyt olen palannut Suomeen ja jatkan verkko-opetusta täältä käsin. Lisäksi pidän oppitunteja kasvokkain Oulussa. Tunteja on tarjolla arkipäivinä. Opetan myös viikonloppuna, kun siitä sovitaan erikseen.

Tarjoan erilaisia suomen tunteja: tavallisten tuntien lisäksi esim. keskustelutunteja ja tukiopetusta. Esimerkkejä erilaisista tunneista on alla englanniksi. Tunnit, jotka eivät sisällä materiaaleja ja etukäteisvalmistelua, ovat opiskelijalle edullisempia. Jos haluat lisätietoja, laita minulle viesti, niin suunnitellaan sinulle sopiva kokonaisuus. Räätälöin jokaisen tunnin kunkin yksittäisen opiskelijan tarpeiden mukaan.

Kun varaat tunnin, kirjoita viestiin, millaisen tunnin haluat varata. Jos varaat tuntia ensimmäistä kertaa, kerro vähän taustastasi suomen kielen suhteen.

Huomioithan, että oppitunnin voi perua tai siirtää nettisivujen kautta 24 tuntia ennen oppituntia. Poikkeustilanteessa voit perua oppituntisi 12 tuntia etukäteen lähettämällä minulle viestin. Muussa tapauksessa minun täytyy laskuttaa sinulta oppitunnin hinta, koska olen varannut tuntiajan sinulle sekä suunnitellut tuntisi. Kiitos ymmärtäväisyydestä.

Olen valmistunut maisteriksi (FM) Oulun yliopistosta. Opiskelin suomea, suomea toisena kielenä, englantia ja kasvatustiedettä. Suomen opettamisen lisäksi minulla on TEFL-pätevyys (Teaching English as a Foreign Language) englannin opettamiseen.

Opiskeluaikana annoin yksityistunteja suomen kielessä aikuisille ja opetin muutamalla intensiivikurssilla. Lisäksi toimin vapaaehtoisena opettajana maahanmuuttajanaisille suunnatussa kielikerhossa. Sen lisäksi, että olen tähän mennessä opettanut suomea aikuisille, syksyllä 2017 työskentelin ala-asteen englannin opettajana Vietnamissa. Opetan mielelläni niin aikuisia kuin lapsiakin.

Olen itse opiskellut useita kieliä: englannin lisäksi osaan jonkin verran saksaa, ruotsia, venäjää ja viroa, joten tiedän, miltä tuntuu opiskella vierasta kieltä. Tiedän myös, ettei suomi ole erityisen helppo kieli oppia. Olen kuitenkin valmis auttamaan sinua matkallasi, olipa kyse sitten kieliopin kiemuroista tai puhekielen saloista, jotka haluat selvittää.

Opetukseni perustuu viestinnälliseen kieltenopetukseen. Paras tapa oppia vierasta kieltä on käyttää sitä, ja siksi rohkaisen sinua hyödyntämään kaikkea sitä, minkä jo osaat. Käytämme tätä lähtökohtana uuden oppimiseen. Toinen lähtökohta on, että opiskelemme ensin asioita, jotka ovat juuri sinulle kielenkäyttäjänä oleellisimpia.

Luon opetuksessani vaihtelevia vuorovaikutustilanteita, kuten rooliharjoituksia, pelejä, kysymyksiä ja mielipidekeskusteluja. Käytän mielelläni myös mediaa, esimerkiksi lyhyitä uutisia tai videopätkiä, jotta näet ja kuulet suomea luonnollisessa kontekstissa. Samalla opit enemmän kulttuurista, joka kieleen liittyy.
