Hello, my name is Alan Dooley and I'm 35 years old and come from Ireland. I live with my German partner who is a translator in Nice, France. I am a native English speaker and teach English. I have been teaching online with Verbalplanet.com since October 2018. I am currently offering a free initial trial lesson for new students.

After graduating from university with a BA in Heritage Studies, I worked in the health insurance industry, where I worked as a sales representative. I have always been interested in languages and I have been teaching English for over eight years. I travelled Europe back in 2010 for a few months before moving to Freiburg, South Germany. I stayed there for four years before moving to Cologne in 2014. It has been an amazing eight years in which I have garnered my skills as an English Teacher. I have been learning German for eight years so I fully understand what it is like in the eyes of a student. Before starting University, I used to run my own construction company at the age of 19. This taught me a lot for my future endeavours.

I consider myself to be very sociable, outgoing and easy to get along with. I love meeting new people hence why I enjoy what I do. I am patient, understanding towards my students' needs. I am now offering first free lessons to new students.

I ran my own construction company at the age of 19 but after working in this industry for over two years, I wanted something else. I studied Heritage Studies at Galway Mayo Institute of Technology Ireland. I earned an Honors Degree there. I worked in the health insurance sector, dealing with private and commercial clients. It was something I enjoyed but teaching was always a passion I wanted to pursue.

I obtained my TEFL certificate in 2009 and since then I have been teaching English . I have never looked back. I have been teaching in language schools in Germany for the last 8 years.

I cater in all areas of English eg. Business English, General English, Technical English, IT English, Medical English, Legal English, Sports English, Young Learners, Aviation English, Military English, Banking English, Engineering English, Presentations Preparation, Meetings, CV/Resume and Cover Letter Preparation, Business Writing, Correspondance and Conversational English.

I have covered all levels from Beginner to Advanced. I have taught group sizes from individual to 8 student groups. My students have covered the four corners of the world, and all walks of life eg. CEOs, engineers, trainees, soldiers, refugees, lawyers, technicians, stay at home parents, unemployed ,teenagers and the retired.

I am a B2 German speaker and as I have just moved to France, I am learning French.

My approach is to give them exactly what they need whatever that may be. I believe in making the student feel at ease immediately and then inquire to what he/she needs and pinpoint the areas that need to be worked on. Based on that, I can develop a plan that will cater to the students needs and wishes. Humor and fun are integral parts of my lessons as I believe be it a CEO or a teenager, humor and fun can lead to better productivity.

I will always adapt my lesson plans according to the student's progress. I am a big believer in PRACTICAL use of the language. I always make sure that they have language that they can use not just from time to time but on a regular basis be it for trips, meetings, email writing, social interaction, school etc. I always make sure that my students learn in a fun yet productive environment.
