Hi everyone! My name is Carolina and I'm Brazilian, so my native language is Portuguese. I was born in São Paulo and have lived in Brazil my whole life, partly in the state of São Paulo, partly in Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul).

I teach students of all levels: beginners, intermediate and advanced. I can speak English if you need (and I love to compare English and Portuguese when it's helpful). Or we can speak only in Portuguese if you prefer. By the way, I'm a "Linguistics nerd" :D!

I have a Bachelor's degree in Letters (Portuguese) from the University of São Paulo (USP) and I've done research about writing and orality in two fields: Applied Linguistics to language teaching and learning and Translation from Latin to Portuguese (I've translated a Cicero's speech). This education has been very useful to me as a Portuguese teacher to foreigners, for many reasons. Firstly, because, even being a native speaker, it's also important to have a linguist's attitude, getting distanced, analysing and explaining how a language works to someone who's learning to speak it. Secondly, having had the experience in translation craft made me understand how to deal with each language's habits, nuances and hues of meaning.

I was at first a Portuguese teacher for native Brazilians, teaching them Grammar and Writing, so the formal Portuguese was the focus. When I teach Portuguese for foreigners though, I consider mainly the realistic informal Portuguese and I don't let my Portuguese become too artificial to "facilitate" things for foreigners, even when I slow down (I can speak slower but not in a way that is far from reality). I show foreigners both types of the real Portuguese language: the informal and the formal. The usages, rules and pronunciations are different. You will notice that there's a kind of "gap" between them, and I want to help you to deal with this.

And there is more: although my studies and experiences had been mainly focused on writing, I concluded that orality and conversation are intrinsic to all written texts, in such a vital way, that you can't overlook "oral" expressiveness by any means and separate the formal and the informal like water and oil. In other words: we need orality even to write a good text (think about Cicero)! A good text is actually a "speech". If you want to improve your writing then, I'm algo ready to help you, also considering "orality". On the other hand, I have been seeking to study more and more the daily-life "orality", the idioms, the native spoken Portuguese, the language "outside schoolbooks" so to speak... Writing and reading are important, but I hope to help my students also with spontaneous spoken speech: let us bring more "realism" to the Portuguese studies! I want you to have the musicality of Portuguese in your mind. And all that in a relaxing and light way, as I really want that learning Portuguese be something happy, nice and smooth to you guys :)! By the way, I write much and I love to talk! :) About many subjects! But I love to listen and I love specially to hear foreigners speaking in Portuguese, no matter in what level! And people in general feel comfortable to talk to me. I love communication! Communication is one of the most important things in life: we need to express ourselves and feel understood, just as we need food (and delicious food!). METHODOLOGY:

My lessons here are mainly conversational, but I divide them into two basic types:

1) theoretical-yet-conversational (mainly for BEGINNERS),

2) conversational-yet-theoretical (mainly for INTERMADIATE and ADVANCED students).

It's important to study all these things as a whole, mixing them throughout the classes.

Oi, pessoal! Meu nome é Carolina, mas também pode me chamar de Carol! Sou brasileira, nascida em São Paulo, e morei toda a minha vida no Brasil, parte no Rio Grande do Sul e parte no estado de São Paulo.

Dou aula para todos os níveis: iniciante, intermediário e avançado. Minha língua nativa é o português, mas também falo inglês, se você precisar! Inclusive, comparar os dois idiomas, além de ser divertido, pode ajudar bastante na aprendizagem. Claro, se você preferir, a aula pode ser toda em português e apenas eventualmente o inglês servir para algum esclarecimento. Ah, eu sou uma "nerd" de Linguística!

Sou formada em Letras (Português) pela Universidade de São Paulo (USP) e fiz pesquisas acadêmicas sobre escrita e oralidade em duas áreas: Linguística Aplicada ao ensino e aprendizagem de línguas e Tradução do Latim para o Português (traduzi um discurso de Cícero). Essa formação tem me ajudado muito como professora de português para estrangeiros, por diversos motivos. Primeiramente, porque, mesmo sendo falante nativa, é importante que eu tenha uma postura de linguista, me distanciando, analisando e explicando como uma língua funciona para alguém que está aprendendo a falar. Em segundo lugar, minha experiência em tradução me permitiu entender como lidar com os hábitos, nuances e matizes de significado em cada idioma.

Inicialmente, eu era professora de português para brasileiros nativos, ensinando gramática e escrita, com foco no português formal. Quando ensino português para estrangeiros, porém, considero principalmente o português informal e realista, e não deixo meu português se tornar artificial demais para "facilitar" o aprendizado para os estrangeiros, mesmo quando falo mais devagar (posso falar mais devagar, mas não de uma forma que se distancie da realidade). Apresento aos estrangeiros os dois tipos de português real: o informal e o formal. Os usos, as regras e as pronúncias de ambos são diferentes. Você pode sentir que existe uma espécie de "abismo" entre eles, e quero ajudá-lo a lidar com isso.

E tem mais: embora meus estudos e experiências tenham se voltado principalmente para a escrita, concluí que a oralidade e a conversação são intrínsecas a todos os textos escritos, de uma forma tão vital, que não se pode ignorar a expressividade oral de forma alguma e separar o formal do informal como se fossem água e óleo. Em outras palavras: precisamos da oralidade até mesmo para escrever um bom texto (pensem em Cícero!). Um bom texto é, na verdade, um discurso. Se você quer melhorar sua escrita, estou à disposição para ajudar, e também vou considerar a oralidade nessa jornada. Por outro lado, tenho me dedicado cada vez mais ao estudo da oralidade do cotidiano, das expressões idiomáticas, do português falado pelos nativos, da língua "fora dos livros", por assim dizer... Escrever e ler são importantes, mas espero ajudar meus alunos também com a fala espontânea: vamos trazer mais realismo aos estudos de português! Quero que vocês tenham a musicalidade do português em mente. E tudo isso de uma forma descontraída e leve, pois realmente quero que aprender português seja algo feliz, agradável e tranquilo para vocês :)! Vamos nos divertir!

Aliás, eu escrevo bastante e adoro conversar! :) Sobre muitos assuntos! Mas adoro ouvir, especialmente estrangeiros falando português, independentemente do nível! E as pessoas em geral se sentem à vontade para conversar comigo. Adoro comunicação! METODOLOGIA:

Minhas aulas são principalmente conversacionais, mas as divido em dois tipos básicos:

Ciao a tutti! Mi chiamo Carolina e sono brasiliana, quindi la mia lingua madre è il portoghese. Sono nata a San Paolo e ho vissuto in Brasile per tutta la vita, in parte nello stato di San Paolo e in parte a Porto Alegre (Rio Grande do Sul).

Insegno a tutti i livelli: principiante, intermedio e avanzato. Parlo inglese se necessario (e mi piace confrontare inglese e portoghese quando è utile). Oppure possiamo parlare solo in portoghese, se preferite. A proposito, sono una "nerd della linguistica" :D!

Ho una laurea in Lettere (portoghese) presso l'Università di San Paolo (USP) e ho svolto ricerche sulla scrittura e l'oralità in due campi: Linguistica applicata all'insegnamento e all'apprendimento del portughese e Traduzione dal latino al portoghese (un discorso di Cicerone). Questa formazione mi è stata molto utile come insegnante di portoghese agli stranieri, per molte ragioni. In primo luogo, perché, pur essendo madrelingua, è importante avere l'atteggiamento di un linguista, prendere le distanze, analizzare e spiegare come funziona una lingua a chi sta imparando a parlarla. In secondo luogo, l'esperienza nel campo della traduzione mi ha insegnato a gestire le abitudini e le sfumature di significato di ogni lingua.

Inizialmente ero un'insegnante di portoghese per brasiliani nativi, insegnavo loro grammatica e scrittura, quindi il portoghese formale era il mio obiettivo. Quando insegno portoghese agli stranieri, però, considero principalmente il portoghese informale e realistico e non lascio che il mio portoghese diventi troppo artificiale per "facilitare" le cose agli stranieri, anche quando rallento (posso parlare più lentamente, ma non in un modo che si discosti dalla realtà). Mostro agli stranieri entrambe le forme della vera lingua portoghese: quella informale e quella formale. Gli usi, le regole e le pronunce sono diversi. Noterete che c'è una sorta di "divario" tra loro, e voglio aiutarvi a gestirlo.

E c'è di più: sebbene i miei studi e le mie esperienze si siano concentrati principalmente sulla scrittura, ho concluso che l'oralità e la conversazione sono intrinseche a tutti i testi scritti, in modo così vitale che non si può in alcun modo trascurare l'espressività "orale" e separare il formale dall'informale come l'acqua dall'olio. In altre parole: abbiamo bisogno dell'oralità anche per scrivere un buon testo (pensate a Cicerone)! Un buon testo è in realtà un "discorso". Se volete migliorare la vostra scrittura, sono sempre pronto ad aiutarvi, considerando anche l'"oralità". D'altra parte, ho cercato di studiare sempre di più l'"oralità" della vita quotidiana, le espressioni idiomatiche, il portoghese parlato dai madrelingua, la lingua "fuori dai libri di scuola", per così dire... Scrivere e leggere sono importanti, ma spero di aiutare i miei studenti anche con il parlato spontaneo: portiamo più "realismo" agli studi portoghesi! Voglio che abbiate a mente la musicalità del portoghese. E tutto questo in modo rilassante e leggero, perché voglio davvero che imparare il portoghese sia per voi un'esperienza piacevole, piacevole e piacevole :)! Divertiamoci!

A proposito, scrivo molto e adoro parlare! :) Di molti argomenti! Ma adoro ascoltare e mi piace soprattutto sentire gli stranieri parlare in portoghese, a prescindere dal livello! E le persone in generale si sentono a loro agio a parlare con me. Amo comunicare! La comunicazione è una delle cose più importanti nella vita: abbiamo bisogno di esprimerci e sentirci compresi, proprio come abbiamo bisogno di cibo (e cibo delizioso!). E spero che portiate qualche stuzzichino e una bevanda calda per le nostre lezioni, rilassatevi e sentitevi i benvenuti! Parleremo di argomenti di vita e anche del portoghese stesso, con un approccio linguistico.

- Ricerca in Linguistica Applicata (Portoghese): studi sul rapporto tra scrittura e oralità nei testi degli studenti. L'obiettivo era quello di migliorare l'insegnamento della scrittura, considerando l'importanza dell'espressività orale.

- Ricerca sulla Traduzione (dal Latino Classico al Portoghese): traduzione di un brano dal "De signis" di Cicerone. Questa esperienza è stata ottima per imparare la Retorica di Cicerone (i suoi talenti di scrittura/linguaggio!) e anche per scoprire come le lingue "vedono" il mondo in modo diverso.
