I'm an enthusiastic professional English teacher living near Blackpool, on the west coast of England.
About 15 years ago, I changed from a career in software development to working as a teacher of English as a foreign language. I've never regretted it!
Qualifications & Experience
I have held the Trinity College TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) since the year 2000.
In my early teaching career, I worked for several language schools in Andalucia, Spain in a traditional classroom environment. Now I have returned to the UK, where I work happily from my desk at home, teaching English to people all around the world.
I currently work both on my own account and for some well known online schools based in Paris and Moscow. On top of my classroom teaching background, I have more than 10 years' experience teaching English online via Skype and other programs.
Before I became an English teacher, I worked for 16 years in I.T., developing software for various organisations, including banks, insurance companies and public transport organisations. (Teaching is much more rewarding!)
I speak Spanish fluently, and have a working knowledge of French.
Teaching Approach
Students have different strengths and weaknesses, as well as different objectives for their study of English. A good teacher needs to be able to respond to the needs of the individual student. That is what makes teaching so challenging and rewarding.
I'm a patient and easy-going person. My teaching style is relaxed and informal, but at the same time purposeful and targeted. Learning a language takes a lot of work, there's no doubt about it. But that doesn't mean that it can't be fun too. For that reason, I believe it's also important to remember to laugh from time to time!
I enjoy teaching students of all levels, whether the requirement is for general or business English. In fact, my years of experience of working in information technology in a variety of organisations were great training for teaching English as it is really used in business.
