I'm originally from North Devon (definitely the most beautiful part of the UK) and I now live and work in the wonderful city of Oxford. I studied Philosophy at University before going on to obtain a Masters in Latin American Development.
I love travelling - I've explored Europe, Asia and Latin America, and I lived in Argentina and Colombia for two years.
I enjoy doing lots of things, especially cooking, reading, learning Spanish, walking and running, and playing, watching and talking about football. I also love meeting and getting to know new people - this is a big reason why I enjoy my job so much.
I have now been teaching English for over 4 years, and I continue to to find it a hugely enjoyable, constantly challenging and deeply rewarding job.
I am a highly qualified and experienced teacher. I obtained my Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Adults (CELTA) in early 2010, and recently obtained the Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults (DELTA). I constantly seek to develop and improve my teaching.
My 4 years of teaching experience has encompassed all levels from absolute beginner through to advanced and beyond. I have taught both General and Business English, both in groups and on a 1-to1 basis. I have also helped prepare students for the Cambridge First (FCE), Advanced (CAE) and Proficiency (CPE) exams.
I always aim to make my lessons enjoyable and challenging for my students. I have a personal and very friendly approach - I take a genuine interest in my students and their lives, which helps me to tailor my lessons to their needs and interests.
I believe in the effectiveness of conversation driven, communicative learning, combined with targeted work on grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
We can work together to decide on the content of our lessons, but they could include:
- Exam preparation
- Understanding native speakers in the real world
- Phrasal verbs and idioms
