My name is Mami. I am a teacher with many years' experience of introducing students to Japanese language and culture. I grew up in Hachioji, a peaceful area just west of central Tokyo. Like much of Japan, Hachioji is surrounded by mountains, giving outstanding views of the city below!
I am happy to teach beginners and more experience students. I have many teaching resources to help learners get the most from their studies. See more details in the ‘Teaching Approach’ section below.
I hope you enjoy this course. Thank you for choosing to study Japanese language and culture with me!
My work in Japan has given me the opportunity to meet people from all over the world and introduce them to Japanese language and culture. This ranges from people who interested in discovering more about life in Japan, to those who are relocating permanently for work.

I am a very patient teacher who has a great enthusiasm for teaching Japanese language and culture. I aim to pitch my lessons at the right level for my students and progress at a speed which is appropriate for them. I can teach experienced Japanese speakers who want to practice their skills or new learners who are taking their first steps.
Experienced learners :
If you have prior experience of speaking Japanese, then I can help you practice and improve your skills. These lessons are customised for your needs and you can define the learning outcomes and the topics you would like to discuss. In addition to the one-to-one time we have on Skype, I can look for relevant YouTube videos related to your chosen subject to allow you to gain a greater insight into your subject of choice.
If you are a beginner then I have a number of structured lessons which I can teach you. Topics include introducing yourself, sight-seeing and Travel & Transport. All my beginner courses are backed up by culture notes which I have written specifically to give beginners background to the language they will learn with me. In addition to the one-to-one time we have on Skype, I have also developed my own online learning material to support your learning. This material features interactive slides and audio clips to help learners improve their skills when we are not together.
