About me - English
My name is Letizia, an enthusiastic, highly-motivated Italian language tutor with excellent organizational and interpersonal skills. I have a huge passion for modern languages and I have experience working in many different environments. I consider myself a dynamic, creative and patient tutor who enjoys teaching the Italian language and sharing its culture. I love travelling and discovering new corners of the world, cooking traditional food and doing outdoor activities.
Qualifications & Experience
I have a degree in Linguistic and Cultural Mediation and a postgraduate degree in Literary Translation. In my previous roles, I have had the opportunity to gain a lot of experience in teaching language courses. I have 8 years’ English, Italian and Spanish teaching experience working in organizations of various sizes to students with multicultural backgrounds and ages. For instance, I have taught in secondary schools and private language schools, both in Spain and Guatemala. I have designed and implemented courses for classes and individuals.
For the past 5 years, I worked as language laboratory assistant and tutor in a private English language school. This included assisting Italian students of English, with various linguistic needs. For instance I tailored individual lessons to the needs of the students, provided support with independent learning strategies and resources and I also provided on demand explanation of grammar structures. After teaching for many years, I realized there was still more I wanted to learn about teaching, consequently,I attended a preparation course to get the Ditals certification in the next two months. (certification for teaching Italian to non-native speakers).
Teaching Approach
Since the courses that I taught were quite varied I have had experience in using a range of teaching methodologies. I always plan my lessons according to the students learning needs. In my lessons I adopt a communicative approach which enables students to understand grammar structures easily and to use the language effectively in a variety of contextualised situations. I often use dynamic learning activities such as games and songs to engage and interest students. I also use authentic teaching materials, which includes films, adverts, or newspapers to aid the students’ understanding of cultural aspects of a language. I believe that the key to being a successful tutor is to establish an relaxed and confident connection between the tutor and students to create a positive learning environment.
