About me - English

I am a 31-years-old Greek native speaker from the island of Crete.

I started teaching Greek 8 years ago when my Spanish friends, who had just moved to Greece, needed help with the language. Since then I have taught students from France, Italy, Luxembourg, Turkey and the UK and I can proudly say that some of them have a great level of Greek already.

Besides teaching, I do translations from Spanish and English to Greek and I also work in the Tourism Industry. I spend my free time doing crafts and traveling as much as I can. I love languages (currently learning Turkish) playing tennis and walking with my dog.

IMPORTANT: please contact me before booking a lesson. As I currently work as a freelance translator I can manage my work schedule and change it depending on your needs

Qualifications & Experience

I hold a bachelors degree on Archaeology from the University of Crete. Before I graduated, in 2008, I moved to Spain for 8 months where I worked in a museum. My main tasks where to prepare educational workshops for the visitors of the museum. I mainly worked with school students of all ages.

After I graduated I moved to England for six months in order to enhance my English. While I was in London, I had the chance to teach at Kingston Greek School of St George. It was a temporary job but I ended up loving it as I worked again with children of Greek origin that were born in England and were attending the Greek school on Saturdays.

While I was still in the UK I decided to start a masters in Greece, so I returned back to Greece and finished my master degree in Tourism. I have spent each summer of my life working in the tourism industry, as we own a small family hotel on the island of Crete. Since childhood I have been in contact with people from various countries and this has helped me gain strong communication skills.

Since 2010, I have been a tutor of Modern Greek. I started with my now-friends Antonio and Yelena from Spain, continued with Suzanne and Alan from England, Ali from Turkey, Michel and Tania from Luxembourg etc.

Since March 2017 I have been working as a translator for a company based in Crete. I am translating texts from Spanish and English to Greek.

I speak English, Spanish, basic Turkish and German.

I believe that my passion for travelling, languages and culture helps me approach people from different countries.

P.S. I am currently doing an online course for teaching Greek as a foreign language

Teaching Approach

All classes are tailored to the students' needs and language goals. After a discussion we decide which teaching approach is best suited to you.

I believe that interaction is essential. I am always encouraging students to speak to each other (in group lessons) and talk to me. I prepare games, songs and videos.

I focus on different things depending on each student's weaknesses.

Making mistakes is part of language learning, it means that one is trying.
