Teaching Approach
I usually follow a precise scheme to teach a new language to my students. After an introductory phase aimed to create a relaxed environment and to establish a connection, I try to understand what are the interests or the curiosities of the student.
People tend to be more focused if they follow a topic they like. Therefore after a short grammar explanation with a few basic rules, I prefer to give time for conversation, it will be possible to verify if the student has understood the topic and on which level. If necessary, I might ask the student to "produce" something (e.g. identifying elements through pictures and describe them, filling up missing parts of a text, etc..)
As already specified, I prefer to give more time to conversation, students must feel free to speak and to make mistakes as much as possible. It is through mistakes and error that someone can improve. I avoid correcting all the time, I prefer to note the eventual mistakes and report them at the end of the lesson. Through this method the student can build up on her/himself earning in self-confidence. This empowerment helps to be more receptive and fully understand the eventual mistakes maintaining a positive attitude.
Most important: The student has to enjoy the class, everything is done for her/him to learn and understand, the rest comes after.
To summarize: I give more space to dialogue, without focusing excessively on grammatical items that can look too abstract and sometimes even confusing. I try to mix visual and other elements together to help the students understand the topic and check with them their results and impressions at the end of the lesson.
