About me - English

¡Hola! ¡Encantada de conocerte! My name is Silvia and I am from Spain (Seville) although I’m currently living in Italy, where I’ve been teaching privately and online for 4 years.

I’m a certified Spanish teacher as a second language (ELE) by International House (Accredited Center by the Instituto Cervantes) and I offer:

• General Spanish classes and conversation for those who want to improve their speaking, listening and pronunciation.

• Specific Spanish courses adapted to your needs (Spanish for professionals of all areas, preparation of exams, etc.).

• Courses are for all levels. They are very effective, dynamic and adapted to your personal situation.

My lessons are personalized to you. The method is the one I’ve learnt in my daily experience as a teacher and as a student. The trial lesson will let me evaluate your level, and get to know your goals, your strengths and weaknesses and the type of activities you most enjoy doing in your language lessons. It doesn't matter if you want to learn something helpful for your next trip or if you wish to prepare for your DELE Exam... If you are thinking in learning Spanish, try a free class and see how my teaching can improve your Spanish.

I hope to meet you soon!

Hasta pronto!

Qualifications & Experience

I worked for many years in finance as a SAP consultant and gave training courses to the employees. This made me realize what I really liked was teaching. For family reasons, I moved to Sweden in 2013 and I reconsidered my working life and I started to teach Spanish at home. For this, I decided to study and train myself, because I think that being a native speaker is not enough, you have to know how to teach. So, I attended several courses in Cervantes Institute and decided to take a Spanish course as a second language by International House (Accredited Center by the Instituto Cervantes).

Two years ago, I moved to Italy and my Swedish students changed to online classes. The online classes are working very well, and they are learning a lot.

Teaching Approach

The method is one I’ve learnt in my daily experience as a teacher and as a student. I have been trying to learn English my whole life, I knew a lot of grammar, but I couldn’t understand anything or have a real conversation. From the beginning I try to get the student to talk and communicate. My method is based in several books (Aula International new edition, socios, etc). I am subscribed to a website (its name is Editorial Difusión). Also, I work with my own material: audiovisual material, songs, play activities, but always without leaving aside the grammar- totally necessary if you want to learn a language. I share my desk during the lesson, so the student can follow the explanation.

(START): The lesson starts with an activity that helps the student refresh their previous knowledge and get them acquainted with the unit’s lexicon.

(COMPREHENSION ACTIVITY): Then, I show them a wide range of texts and documents (can be websites, emails, newspapers articles, advertisements, etc.) to contextualize the unit.

(EXPLORE AND THINK ABOUT): Afterward we practice doing some exercises what they have learnt, so they can think about the morphological, lexical, functional and discursive working of the language.

(PRACTICE AND COMMUNICATE): We make communicative micro-tasks, so the students realize how the language works. These activities revolve around the student’s own experiences and the world around them.

VIAJAR: The last section in each unit includes materials that help students better understand the everyday and cultural reality of Spanish-speaking countries.

SUMMARY: The last page of the unit includes grammatical and functional structures summary. Their aim is to promote clarity.

Teaching of Spanish is an activity that I am passionate about and I try to transmit it in my classes, trying to innovate and creating my own material that facilitates the learning of my students.
