About me - English
My name is Natalia Pasternak and I have been living in Norway for many years. Foreign languages are my passion: English, Norwegian, Spanish, French, Polish. I have been learning Latin and German as well. I have finished my studies in Norway at Stavanger University, I received philologist title and teacher qualifications. I work as an interpreter and teacher in Stavanger.
Because I have learned 6 languages myself, I know how to work with a student and which methods are the best. I am against studies where you have to learn by heart number of words and fixed rules. In my opinion the most important is contact with the language, talking, conversations, reading the papers and watching TV.
Qualifications & Experience
I have been teaching Norwegian for six years, and have had students from different countries . I have had many private students - teaching them mostly via Skype - and many groups as well.
I have been teaching at A1, A2, B1 ,B2 and C1 level. I have experience with preparations for different exams ( Bergenstest, Norskprøve)
The majority of my students come from Russia, Poland, US and Spain. I know what difficulties the native speakers of those languages have with learning Norwegian/Polish and how I can help them.
I have finished my language studies on the University in Stavanger ( Norway) and here I gained my teacher qualifications as well.
Teaching Approach
I am highly against an old model of teaching – no creativity, just tiresome forms. Language is vivid, so lessons should be full of passion and influence students to discover languages on their own. Studying a language is also very demanding, so students need to overcome their own fears and open themselves for the world. The majority of my students are people who have certificates but still cannot (or are even afraid) to speak. Conversations are key in learning a foreign language. From the first class we are going to create easy sentences or phrases. You cannot be afraid of mistakes, without mistakes we cannot improve ourselves. Classes with me are demanding, because I “force” my students to talk and be active. At the beginning it is very hard, but results are quickly noticeable.
I invite you for the first, free lesson, where I present my techniques.
