About me - English
Hello, my name is André Gouveia. I live in Porto, Portugal and I am a native Portuguese speaker.
Since 2014, I have been working as an English tutor in my city.
In my free time, I enjoy reading, browsing on the internet, blogging, listening to music, playing the guitar, travelling and hiking.
I have travelled to several European countries in the last 8 years.
Qualifications & Experience
For the last four years I have been working as an English tutor, teaching group and 1-on-1 classes.
I offer classes of general English, professional English, business English and preparation for international exams from beginner to advanced levels.
In the past I also used to teach Portuguese on 1-to-1 classes and have volunteered in a NGO to help a group of foreigners to develop Portuguese speaking skills.
Recently I also have been helping people from many parts of world to develop conversation skills in Portuguese and English on-line.
Teaching Approach
For starters, I like to keep lessons as informal as possible so the student can feel comfortable to express his/her ideas and thoughts.
If you have a good idea about your goals and the approach you feel more comfortable with, lessons will be personalized accordingly.
I believe that if you want to achieve the best results, the different areas of language should be worked on: speaking, listening, writing, reading, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation.
Depending on the lesson, I will give you homework that includes exercises or tasks on grammar, vocabulary, writing or reading.
Materials will be provided so you don´t have to worry about that.
In summary, I can offer ENGLISH lessons (General English, Business English, Professional English and preparation for International Exams - KET, PET, FCE or IELTS) and PORTUGUESE conversation lessons.
A Portuguese course for beginners will be offered soon.
