Hi, my name is Steve, I am originally from Sydney, Australia. I am a native speaker of English. Something I really enjoy is helping students to reach their goals, seeing a student improve over time is very rewarding. I hope I can do the same for Verbal Planet students.
Since 2009 I have been working in the ESL industry in Viet Nam. In that time I have had various jobs in both the classroom and online. I concentrate a lot on IELTS and TOEIC test preparation and practice, mainly with the listening, reading and speaking skills. I have and use many different resources to help students improve their skills.
I also cover other areas such as Business English and general conversation. I have taught in numerous large and small private companies over the years.
I still have a job working in a classroom a few nights a week teaching IELTS listening, reading and speaking, and the rest of the time will be taken up online. I do quite a few IELTS mock tests at the center which gives the students good practice for their upcoming test
I have over nine years of classroom and online work experience. I have previous experience in public schools, language centers, and private companies.

I taught IELTS and TOEIC at a college for engineers for 4 years. This was to get the engineers ready to work with English speaking colleagues overseas and locally. At the same center, I was engaged to teach the local Vietnamese teachers who were also teaching engineers.
I also had quite a few private jobs teaching Business English. This was mainly to the upper management who were dealing with international companies. The main areas we covered were, emails, holding meetings, phone calls, and face-to-face meetings.
Asking the student what they want to focus on is one of my first questions when meeting a new student. Ascertaining this by general discussion and some small tests will help planning for future classes.
In my classes, I try to keep it casual and low key. This is to help the student relax and not feel too much pressure when they are learning.
I use a variety of resources, worksheets, gap fills, songs, various web pages, etc. By using a variety of resources it allows the student a mixture of lessons, not just the same lesson structure and format each time.
I am very relaxed and motivated to help my students. I also work at a language centre a few days a week. I love seeing my students improve. I take a lot of time outside of my online lessons finding resources that can help my students.
Overall, it's about learning without too much stress and worry.
