I have been teaching English for over 20 years in Australia and overseas, in the classroom and online. I am a TESOL trained teacher who has taught a variety of classes to native-born speakers, migrants, refugees, professionals, job seekers, international students and private online students. I have taught all levels of English. I have taught General English, Academic English, Business English and English for job seekers. In addition, I have provided English language support for students in vocational education courses (e.g. students in accounting, business administration, health, children's service, aged care service courses etc.) I'm a passionate educator having progressed my career from teaching English as a Second Language to adults to forging occupational experience as an educational writer and as a learning designer. These roles tie in nicely in helping me support diverse learners with an array of writing, teaching, assessment, and technical skills and talents. Being an online tutor is part of my ongoing passion for being an educator. I also understand what it is like to learn an additional language as I have been a Spanish language student as an adult and an Italian language student in my younger years. I have travelled extensively and I continue to enjoy this as well as other hobbies such as yoga, swimming, cinema and theatre. I also volunteer as a refugee mentor and a global greeter.

My approach is to teach language in context and to focus on the practice of the four macro-skills: speaking, listening, reading and writing. I tune into language weaknesses including any pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar and writing weaknesses so that I can offer practical activities and tasks, engaging resources, timely explanations and learning strategies for lifelong learning. Firstly, an initial discussion of learning goals and assessment of skills is important so that I can tailor and personalise the lesson for you. I believe that learners learn best through their environment, social interaction with others and a variety of resources. Practically, resources I offer might be an URL, a reading text, an audio or video file, an image or infographic, a role play or list of conversational phrases or a Word document that can be either shared via screen sharing or sent electronically. For more of my learning resources follow me on https://twitter.com/englishinsider where I post my latest resources. Professionally, my teaching style is based on contemporary theories of second language learning, genre theory, linguistics and how learners learn online. Lastly, you should know that my speech is Australian neutral although people have also said that I have an international sound. Watch and listen to me on YouTube before you book your first lesson.
