About me - English
I am Stela, a professional Greek language teacher, native speaker, new to Verbalplanet, but with great experience in teaching Greek.
I started my career as a teacher in secondary schools in Greece mostly preparing students to sit the university exams in 1980. Since 2002 I teach Modern Greek to adults.
I always tailor my lessons to meet the students' needs. In my lessons I either follow a book or prepare the lesson using different books, newspapers, literature, songs or internet resources.
I speak English fluently and also learn German.
Qualifications & Experience

I started my career as a teacher in secondary schools in Greece, mostly preparing students to sit the university exams.
In 2002 I started teaching modern Greek to immigrants in Thessaloniki voluntarily.

In the meantime I had distant training courses at the Greek Language Centre, Aristotle University of Thessaloniki.
I also worked as a Greek Language teacher for two years at the World Consultants in Central London,
From 2012 I work as a reviser for IGCSE Modern Greek Papers, University of Cambridge.
Teaching Approach
In my lessons I use the communicative approach and during the lesson I run all the activities. To achieve it for beginners and to make them feel confident, I use mostly the target language, gestures, pictures and a minimum vocabulary. For more advanced students apart the books, I use newspapers, literature and internet resources. During the lessons I focus on talking on topics the students' are interested in and encourage them to prepare short speeches with arguments. As a follow up the students read and write texts or present a research in internet.
Teaching the language I either follow a book or prepare my own material to meet the students' needs.
In my lessons I incorporate cultural elements, because learning a language you learn the culture as well.
