Detailed Profile in English

About me

I am a 28-year-old native English speaker living in Brighton, UK. I have studied Translation and Interpreting (Turkish-English / English-Turkish) and I am bilingual in Turkish and English as one of my parents is Turkish.

When I was a senior in college, I took my CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in Teaching English to Adults) and I was offered a job at the same university. Having taught EAP (English for Academic Purposes) for about 2 years, I decided to pursue my career in ELT (English Language Teaching) and completed my MA (Masters degree) English Language and Linguistics at the University of Westminster, London, UK in 2017. I worked as a consecutive translator at the Ministry of Justice during my time in London. Since I graduated, I have been working at EF (Education First) International School of English which is one of the most famous international schools all around the world. Not only have I been working with EF, but also traveling in the UK. I worked in Cambridge, London, Manchester and now finally I am in Brighton. Here, I teach a minimum of 26 hours a week to students aged between 16 - 60 from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds as well as designing syllabi and supplementary materials for the whole department and the team. I also give CPD (Continuous Professional Development) sessions to my colleagues for training purposes.

I have worked with many students from South America, Asia, Europe and Middle East. I am fully aware of the commonly made mistakes in each language spoken and how to deal with them. I am also a very easy-going person who tries to make the student be aware of his/her own mistakes as well as having fun while learning. I try to bring interesting and different materials into my lessons and incorporate content on various subjects including film, history, culture, and even psychology to keep my students entertained which would still be the case with my Skype sessions.

As a TEFLQ (QCF level 7 and NFQ level 8 or 9 equivalent) qualified English teacher and a private tutor with 8 years of teaching experience both at different schools settings and ages and I believe that all of this has led to highly praised instructional delivery and teacher performance approved and certified by British Council and many other authorities who observed my lessons throughout the years.

Teaching Approach

As I believe the most efficient way of learning is the communicative approach, I try to deliver my lessons using this approach, especially when I deliver my lessons online. Communicative approach is one of the best ways for a teacher to detect the learners` mistakes and deal with them on the spot. If necessary, I would provide the learner with external materials and try a lexical approach but this depends on the learner and her/his request.
