I am passionate about teaching English and providing students with a positive and productive learning experience. This enthusiasm is also evident away from work. I love film, books and sport. I am a coach for my daughters' football team. I love helping the players to enjoy themselves through sport and bond together in a team environment, I enjoy travelling and with the help of Air BnB my wife and I have travelled extensively in Abruzzo and Southern Spain. I have a rich life, so far I have lived in lots of different places in England and for shorter periods in mainland Europe. Now I live in Ireland and although we share the same language it is different to living in the UK. I have been teaching for over twenty years and I am still learning. I believe every student is different and this is why I teach. It is a challenge to adapt and react to differing students' needs. There is no such thing in education as one size fits all and finding the key to unlocking how people learn and progress is what motivates me. I like to build a strong rapport with all my students so it not only becomes a personal experience but one that still provides a valuable educational process. I like to think that teaching is a chance to enrich students' lives at once on a technical level by giving them new skills but also on a more personal level so that they will value education itself.
I have the CELTA , certificate in teaching English as a foreign language, a PGCE , British state school teaching qualification and BA Hons degree in English. I have taught General English, and Cambridge Exams, trained teachers on the CELTA course, taught foreign secondary teachers on Erasmus refresher programmes and taught specialist English courses such as Business English and Medical English in groups and on a one to one basis. I also have extensive experience of teaching online. I am currently specializing in General English and delivering the IELTS syllabus. I believe every student is different and this is why I teach. I like to place students right at the centre of the learning process and deliver lessons which answer their needs. Every lesson plan needs tweaking if it is to work in practice. I keep my lessons fluid and dynamic so that they generate real interest and engagement form the students. I think that the students should be given a chance to practise and activate the language as much as possible. I also think it is important for students to learn by doing and not just listening and taking notes, We should elicit and let them discover as much as they can. I would like a student to say "that was a really fun lesson and I learned so much." As a teacher I am a spark to light their learning.
