My name is Julie, and I am originally from America, but have been living in Italy for the past 35 years. I also had to learn a foreign language, so I know exactly how you feel!
I live on the beautiful island of Murano, just near Venice. I am married and have 2 sons. I enjoy reading and travelling, and teaching is my passion.
I love sharing and exchanging ideas and experiences with my students, and when the "light" behind their eyes comes on that means..."HEY! I understand!", it's pure joy for me! My knowledge of the Italian language helps in understanding, but I prefer to keep it all in English. I teach general English (all levels), prepare for all exams and also Business English.
I have a TEFL/TESOL certificate, and have taught English in groups and privately tutored for 30-plus years. I started teaching in Italy in a Language school, and then from there went on to privately tutor, and start my own freelance work.
My youngest student was 3 years old and my oldest was 82 years old, giving me a wide range of experience!
I pride myself on my approach to teaching. It is student-centered, and I aim to meet your needs.
Throughout my years of tutoring and teaching, I have found that theory is important, but practice is key. I give my students opportunities to share and connect with each other by discussing current events, debating, and even telling jokes!
My younger students benefit from the relaxed playful atmosphere I'm able to create. Songs are essential here!
I also use mnemonics, and visualization in my teaching. I find this is very helpful, especially for students with dyslexia.
