Hello, my name is Marjorie! I'm an American currently living and teaching English in Taiwan. I'm passionate about teaching, as well as writing and traveling! I've written about travel for numerous online publications, including the Huffington Post, and in addition to teaching, I have extensive experience with writing and copy-editing.
I also enjoy cooking, hiking, and playing ukulele. I've lived in Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, and Taiwan (as well as, of course, America!).
*** I'm traveling to South Korea from August 22nd-28th, so I have no availability during those days, but please feel free to book lesson times after the 28th! ***
I'm a native speaker of English, and I hold a degree from Smith College and a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification from Oxford Seminars, the leading provider of TESOL/TESL/TEFL courses throughout the US & Canada. I have four years of experience teaching English to adults and children in both the U.S. and Asia, in both formal and informal settings.
In the Czech Republic, I worked at an ESL school and taught classes for children and adults focusing on general English and Business English. I also worked in exam prep and have experience helping high school students with their college admission essays.
I recently spent time in Spain, where I worked directly with a family providing English lessons as well as an immersive English environment for their children.
I'm currently in Taiwan, where I've been teaching English for three years. In addition to teaching classes, I create syllabi and organize student learning plans, so I'm very knowledgeable about directing courses of study and learning. I have pioneered several courses for adults and teens in specific areas of study, including Business English, History and Geography. In addition to my job as an English teacher at a school, I also teach private ESL classes, which has honed my ability to create personalized lessons for students.

I believe that learning a new language should be enjoyable, but also as effective and efficient as possible. The core of my teaching philosophy is conversation. Through conversations, you will practice your SPEAKING and LISTENING skills, while learning new VOCABULARY and GRAMMAR for topics that are important and interesting to you.
I will provide feedback and corrections on grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary errors, while offering insight into idioms and phrases that will improve your fluency.
Whether you want to enhance your conversational ability with friends, learn specific vocabulary for tasks in a new language environment (restaurants, banking, travel, and anything else you need), or prepare to meet your business colleagues from another country, I'm here to help! I will design your lesson to focus on any specific topic or theme that you're most interested in.
Additionally, as an avid traveler, I've been in many of these new language situations myself, so not only do I have the experience and qualifications to help you improve your language skills, I also have a deep understanding and appreciation for the thoughts and concerns behind communicating in another language. Together we'll dive into English and tackle any concerns you may have so you gain confidence and experience in every class!
