Hello, my name is Marjorie! I'm a native English speaker with over 6 years' experience teaching both online and in-person.

I am American and currently live in Colorado, though I lived in Europe and Asia for over 7 years. I'm enjoy teaching, as well as writing and traveling! I've written about travel for many online publications, including the Huffington Post, and in addition to teaching, I have extensive experience with writing and copy-editing.

I also enjoy hiking, cooking, and playing ukulele and flute. In addition to the United States, I've lived in Austria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, Spain, and Taiwan.

I'm a native speaker of English, with degree from Smith College and a TESOL/TESL/TEFL certification from Oxford Seminars.

I have six years of experience teaching English to adults and children in both the U.S. and Asia, in both formal and informal settings.

In the Czech Republic, I worked at an ESL school and taught classes for children and adults focusing on general English and Business English.

During my time in Spain, I worked directly with a family providing English lessons as well as an immersive English environment for their children.

Most recently, I spent five years teaching in Taiwan. In addition to teaching classes, I created syllabi and organized student learning plans, so I'm knowledgeable about directing courses of study and learning. I have pioneered several courses for adults and teens in specific areas of study, including Business English, History and Geography. In addition to my teaching position at an English school in Taiwan, I taught private ESL classes, which has honed my ability to create personalized lessons for students.

I believe that language learning occurs best in a comfortable and relaxed atmosphere where you can learn what you want and need to learn.

Learning a new language should be enjoyable, but also as effective and efficient as possible. The core of my teaching philosophy is conversation. Through conversations, you will practice your SPEAKING and LISTENING skills, while learning new VOCABULARY and GRAMMAR for topics that are important and interesting to you.

I will provide feedback and corrections on grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary errors, while offering insight into idioms and phrases that will improve your fluency.

Whether you want to enhance your conversational ability with friends, learn specific vocabulary for tasks in a new language environment (restaurants, banking, travel, and anything else you need), or prepare to meet your business colleagues from another country, I'm here to help! I will design your lesson to focus on any specific topic or theme that you're most interested in.

In addition to conversation, we can practice reading comprehension or grammar and vocabulary (through fun exercises!), or even formal speaking, if you need to give a presentation. I'm also experienced in writing and editing, so I enjoy working with students on essays and presentations.

If you choose to continue our lessons, we will develop a long-term curriculum so that you are advancing in your goals and making progress each lesson.

As a lover of travel, I often find myself in situations where I'm learning a new language, so not only do I have the experience and qualifications to help you improve your language skills, but I also have a deep understanding and appreciation for the thoughts and concerns behind communicating in another language.
