Anne is wonderful to work with: She is very patient, knows how to explain and makes it fun to learn German by balancing well between conversation, reading and grammar. She is a great teacher!

I enjoyed my session with Anne. Despite my limited German, we managed to speak for 45 minutes thanks to her prompts, encouragement and corrections she typed in the chat box. I left the session highly motivated to continue learning German.

Acerca de mí - Inglés

I was born in Berlin and have lived and worked there until 2005. I then moved with my family to Santa Monica, California. I switched careers and became a German teacher.

I have been teaching for 7 years now. I love teaching. I am a founder of Goethe International Charter School, a K - 6 American-German elementary school with 440 students.

I have two children (17 and 19). I play tennis and the Cello, read books and like to write.

Certificaciones y experiencia

For 6 years, I have been teaching in cooperation with the German American School Association in Los Angeles. I have experience with the different CEFR certificates (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) and thus know the requirements for the DSD I and since last year the DSD II. Last year, four of my students passed the DSDII test on the C1 level and one on the B2 level.

For three years, I have been teaching at the Santa Monica Language Academy mostly adults on all different levels.

I have been a substitute teacher at the Goethe International Charter School since 2013.

I hold the CSET (California Subject Test) in German since 2018.

I also hold the CBEST(California Basic Educational Skill) since 2013.

I have a M.A. in Journalism from the Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich

Método de enseñanza

To learn a language is not easy. And it is true that the German language is no exception! My philosophy is that everyone makes mistakes, especially when you start to learn a language. But with time you overcome the barriers and then it becomes easier. You have to find your own routine in order to learn a language. That way everyone, with or without speech talent, can be successful.

The student must feel comfortable to be able to speak. In my lessons, I build a comfortable atmosphere. I try to make teaching a fun experience and make it as varied as possible. Besides that I follow the requirements of the CEFR, I also go by the students needs and personal goals. I study with my students speaking (pronunciation), writing, reading and listening on all different levels. I give homework. I am good at explaining the German grammar which is an essential component for the acquisition of the language.

Learning a language is not easy, and German is no exception. My philosophy is that everyone makes mistakes, especially when starting to learn a language. But over time, these barriers can be overcome, and it becomes easier. Everyone needs to find their own routine for learning a language. This way, anyone can make progress - with or without a natural talent for languages.

The student must feel confident in order to speak the language. I strive to create a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. I make my lessons as varied and engaging as possible. Learning German should be fun.

I follow the requirements of the German Language Diplomas (DSD), which means I practice speaking, writing, reading, and listening at the student's respective level. I assign homework, and I am able to explain grammar clearly, which is a key component in learning the language.
