About me - English
I have always been interested in the use of language in both verbal and written form, and most of my work experience has been focused on those areas.
I have been a journalist for many years, and am presently a writer at a twice-weekly newspaper in North Carolina, USA. I also have radio experience, having been the host of a program called "Native Voices" that was broadcast for nine years.
I was an English teacher in Tokyo, Japan for five years, during which time I taught conversational English in individual and group classes. I speak intermediate level Japanese and continue to study the language.
Qualifications & Experience
In addition to being an English teacher in Tokyo, I spent several years as a tutor for international students who were attending a college in North Carolina.
I have a university degree in English and Communicative Arts.
At Colgrove Language School and at Interworld Language Institute in Tokyo, I taught students with a range of English speaking ability, from absolute beginners to experienced speakers.
Teaching Approach
I consider myself to be a patient instructor, a good listener, and offer a low pressure approach to learning while encouraging my students to do their best.
I am excited to have the opportunity to assist students in achieving a greater degree of English language proficiency, regardless of their level.
