About me - English
Having lived and worked in Japan for seven years, I have gained not only a fluency in the Japanese language but also an awareness and appreciation of the subtleties of Japanese culture. I love the Japanese people and enjoy teaching their language and culture. I am also passionate about teaching English to Japanese people.
I am also fluent in German and spent a year living in Germany during my university years. I have a great affinity with Germany and the German people and have several German friends that I am still in touch with even 20 years after living there.
Prior to teaching languages my most recent employment involved using my German and Japanese languages on the telephone and composing emails on a daily basis. My French is proficient and I am pleased to have been able to help my French GCSE student improve her grade from a C to a B in one term!
Qualifications & Experience
Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) - 2011
Masters degree - 2005
JLPT (Japanese Language Proficiency Test) Level 1 (67%) - 2005
TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages)-1996
BA (Hons) in Theology - 1996
BSC (Hons) in German and Japanese - 1991
PNDS - 1989
I have been teaching languages (Japanese, French and German) for the past two years since completing my PhD studies. Prior to this, whilst living in Japan (1999-2006), I gained extensive experience teaching Japanese and English as a Foreign Language to various groups of non-native speakers ranging from private lessons, to joint lessons, to groups of primary school, high school, university students., business people and house wives.
Teaching Approach
My students appreciate my enthusiasm and love of languages.
I aim to inspire my students by making lessons fun and relevant. The text book is merely a tool that I use to facilitate conversation and help students make the language their own.
Qualifications & Experience

Magister - 2005
JLPT 1 (67%) - 2005
TESOL - 1998
BA (Hons) in Theologie - 1996
BSc (Hons) in Deutsch mit Japanisch - 1991
PNDS - 1989
