About me - English
My name is Světlana and I come from the Czech Republic, most frequently residing in Prague. I love languages and literature - they are part of my daily work and studies.
I can speak English, French, German (and a bit of Spanish).
I have worked as a language teacher (English, French, Czech) and translator since I started my university studies in Prague. I work for private language agencies and as a freelancer.
I have turned my passion for languages and literature into my studies of comparative literature. I am currently studying a PhD programme at Charles University where I also give courses in literature.
Qualifications & Experience
I have professional university level language training.
In 2009 I received a master's in English and French as a foreign language from Charles University Prague.
In 2011 I received a bachelor's in Czech language and literature from Charles University Prague.
I have worked as a language teacher and translator (English, French, Czech) both in private language agencies and as a freelancer since 2002. My experience with students ranges from the pre-school to retirement age.
Teaching Approach
I do not believe in a universal or magic method in language teaching. My lessons are usually structured so that they include all language competences, that is reading, speaking, listening and writing.
I try to work with up-to-date technologies - I use video, audio, cloud, and more. I believe that grammar is of the same importance as vocabulary or, in other words, memorizing long lists of vocabulary can become as boring as doing lengthy grammar exercises. That is way I always prefer to include grammar and vocabulary into all sorts of enjoyable activities that bring students lively experience of the Czech life and culture.
