Detailed Profile in English

About me

My name is Erica Gentile, I am Italian and I live in the United States and Italy. After university in Paris, I worked for many years as first assistant director and casting director for movies and TV shows in Italy.

I work as an Italian teacher and I enjoy it very much. I am currently enrolling a Master Degree at the University For Foreigners of Siena, in Teaching Italian language and Italian Literature. I also have experience teaching children and working in child-care.

In my free time, I like reading, traveling, and of course, movies.

Qualifications & Experience

- Numerous private lessons online and in person.

- In 2013 I attended a course to teach Italian as a Foreign Language at Scuola Torre di Babele, in Rome

- I am currently enrolling a Master Degree at the University For Foreigners of Siena, in Teaching Italian language and Italian Literature

- I have DITALS certification

- I currently work as Italian teacher at Dancing Rabbit Ecovillage in Missouri

- I collaborate as volunteer native Italian speaker at Truman State University in Kirksville, MO

- I am an experienced translator and interpreter for the Italian Publishing Company, Fazi Editore, and subtitling society, Neon Video.

Teaching Approach

The approach that I prefer is the communicative one, in which the student learns the language by entering immediately into the heart of being able to communicate—speak and understand.

The effort to communicate, at the beginning, I believe is more important than "correct" results. The student is at the center of the lesson and they are constantly involved and stimulated to communicate. In the communicative method, even the "mistake" is a good opportunity to learn: the grammar rules are never learned by heart, but the student will get them with the deduction approach.

Teaching Approach

About me
