About me

Hi,

My name is Michael. I am a native speaker and live and work in the UK. I am a qualified English language teacher, and I specialise in one to one online teaching. I have taught in language schools as well as small ESOL classes but I now mainly teach online and develop online teaching methods for others.I have also worked as an English Language teacher for Eastbourne Cultural and Communities Network, helping people who have come to the UK to work to learn and develop English language skills.

I am a Member of Cambridge English Teacher, the online professional development service from Cambridge University Press and Cambridge English Language Assessment. I teach conversational English as well as IELTS and other exam preparations. I teach teenagers who wish to supplement their school English classes and I also teach business English for specialised professions such as computing, psychology, geology, business, and finance. I have a wide range of experience with students of all ages from all over the world. Finally I love teaching, it gives me a great deal of satisfaction to see students develop and gain a new language. For me it is a vocation and one which I enjoy very much.

Teaching Approach

My approach is professional yet friendly and I try to build confidence in my learners and encourage them to speak as much as possible in the lessons. For me it's important to make the learner feel reeled and comfortable in their lesson, and to give them as much help, support and encouragement as possible. I tailor my lessons around the student's requirements and their specific aims and goals. I always spend time finding out as much about my student as possible to enable me to give the the best I can. I always let my students determine what they want, and I see myself as a facilitator to support them to achieve their own goals in whatever area they would like to succeed.

Many of my students have gone onto very successful and high profile careers using their English language skills and qualifications. I base my teaching on my Cambridge CELTA training and the experience which I have gained with my students over the last 5 years. I have also attended many specialised courses and webinars over the years to develop my teaching within specific areas. I feel that I have now developed into an efficient and successful English language teacher and I have many recommendations from both my current and past students.
