Detailed Profile in English

About me

I have been a teacher, mentor, and coach for over 16 years. I graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a BA in psychology and played for the men’s varsity basketball team.

During 2009 and 2010, I lived and taught English in Argentina. I am fluent in Spanish. I traveled alone by bicycle from Ushuaia, Argentina, the southern tip of South America, to Houston, Texas while writing articles, doing radio interviews, recording videos for the Spanish textbook “Teachers Discovery” and the education website, “Speaking Globally,” as well as maintaining my own personal blog. My time in each community was spent learning about the culture while speaking to students of all ages from elementary schools to universities. My message was about tolerance and perseverance conveyed through stories of my journey.

Prior to my Latin American experience, I oversaw all aspects of the athletic program at the Holthouse Boys and Girls Club near downtown Houston as its Athletic Director. There I led a team of professional volunteers from the community, including professional athletes, in pursuing shared goals of enriching the lives of our member’s who were from very diverse cultural backgrounds. I also have worked with immigrant engineers at Chevron in Houston, Texas teaching English as a second language.

I currently own and operate a basketball training business in the San Francisco Bay Area. I train, mentor, and advise over 115 student athletes from 6-26 years old. I have been very passionate about the development of my students both on and off the court. In individual and group training sessions students and I set short and long term goals to make healthy choices and become a better teammate each day. While building this business over the last three years I’ve worked on related projects with start-up companies, collaborated with Nike on new apps, and was chosen by the app, Coachup, to collaborate with Stephen Curry on a marketing video in which I am portrayed as his coach, who is one of the owners.

Teaching Approach

English Language Learning Session Design: For all skill levels.

The first step for each student is to gather an assessment of where we are. I personally tailor curriculums for each student based on their immediate language level needs. Our sessions will be high energy and enthusiastic. We will start with a basic outline and exercises to get you into the mood and have you brain working at the optimal frequency for learning. We work on the fundamentals and your individual strengths/weaknesses to improve your over English aptitude.

Our sessions are very interactive. Conversations and usage of the language is key. I like my students to stay busy and challenged throughout all of our interactions. Over the course of our session(s) the learning is mutual. I become familiar with your learning style, your strengths/areas of improvement, and I will start to monitor and implement activities we will do to fill in those gaps. I am very passionate about the language developments of my student and I will chart progress diligently to show where we’ve come from. Before starting our first session we set a course of goals, outline our expectations, and decide together the direction we’d like to start going in. Charting my students progress is of the highest importance to me as a teacher. We are trying to connect the dots of language learning and charting whether or not we are hitting marks along the way is crucial to our success.

Sessions include Homework and Evaluations.

I taught myself Spanish over the course of a year in Argentina. I remember when I could only say 5-10 words. I use the knowledge gained along my journey learning Spanish, in my English teaching style. Patience, willingness to “play” with the language, and active conversations all helped me get to fluency in Spanish. After one year I gave my first lecture in a university in Popayan, Colombia. Language has opened many doors for me professionally and connected me to the stories of millions around the world. Thank you.
