Hello, my name is Kathy. I am from America and currently live in the UK. I absolutely love to travel and meet new people as well as learn about their cultures. My favorite thing to do in a new place to try the local foods. I love talking about travel and food. I also love learning about people's hobbies. The best way to learn about something new is to talk to someone who enjoys doing that and I love learning about people in my lessons.

I studied International Business with a focus in Management at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. While there, I was able to study abroad in Japan and develop an understanding of different cultures.

After University, I returned and spent three years teaching English in Japan to children and adults with AEON Corporation. I taught anywhere from 4 to 8 classes a day, all based on conversation and communication. I was responsible for about 50 individual students ranging anywhere from 1 year old to 71 years old. I helped many students reach their language goals in that time whether it was studying to pass the EIKEN or TOEIC tests or learning English to travel abroad. With my background in business I was often put in charge of teaching business people so they could do business with their foreign partners.

While I was in Japan I also completed a course for a TEFL certification. I learned a lot and was able to reflect on my own lessons during the course. I studied about different learning and teaching styles as well as the use of language and classroom control.

I enjoy teaching English through a natural approach. I like to give authentic conversation practice. My focus has always been fluency over accuracy. My view of English has changed a lot over the years as I have gained more experience. I love teaching for communication and through discussion so that students can see where and how they can use the English they are learning. I am also a fan of task based activities, especially when put in an everyday situation.
