The Communicative Approach, where the Target Language is used all the time, or as much as possible.
For Beginners, I approach the Language with Immersion into the Target Language, based mostly on Stimulation and Eliciting of Response, the Student picking up initial words and phrases through repetition and gentle prompting. Writing and Reading, Inferral of Meaning can be built on then, as Student's Confidence builds.
For Intermediate and Advanced- Topical Issues, Expressions of Opinion, Comparisons , Commenting thereon, would be approached as the Language Content, with conversation and reading exercises.
